as a heli pilot, i can never really figure our how do it PERFECTLY, but i have been able to do it a little sketchy like. For instance, instead of the cone shape, i can put the heli in a perfect hover and bring it completely vertical ( nose down ) and loop the chopper on its Z axis. Looks very nice, and is very useful when dodging AA missles, but it doesnt give you that accurate missle shot that the "cone" monuever does.

same here, I can pull something like that off, but the 'stopping' before he went into the move was probably more of an illusion....he's using his forward speed to push himself in the cone.

I can circle strafe an area, but usually have to move the mouse hard to one side...once the main rotor is tilted you get a nice push to the side...using that momentum u can level off and let it carry you around, using the tail rotor to help with the move.

For missle shots, I've been sneaking up on armor, a bit risky, but dropping very low in altitude, keeping the nose up, and pounding him before I have to worry about flying past him (and into his guns' sights).

Im sorry this is my fault ive been rereading this thread and i know were ive gone wrong explaining myself. Right for one he didnt just pull one cone maneuver he pulled multiple cone maneuvers one after another. On that picture i was on that bank as a sniper (when i was actually in game (the pic i took today on an empty server was in the same place though)) and i watched that guy flying back to the heli pad whilst smoking he slowed right down to get into posistion over the heli pad. And while repairing himself he did the cone maneuver over the heli pad about 7 or 8 times he didnt actualy need speed and forward momentum to perform the maneuver he could do it at will anytime he wantedand as many times as he wanted.

p.s. I know the way ive typed this out is horrible but it so hard to explain if only i had fraps running at the time youd see what im on about. Just try to imagine this you know a lassoe the cowboys use when there spining around the a rope he was like the peace of rope connecting to the hop.

I do that maneuver all the time on sharqi to prevent getting hit with AT missiles.

I saw this on Daq the other night, The cobra was doing this manuever to cap flags.... it was that tight of a cone. He just spun around , nose down, like a top. >.<
I have to give props to the pilots that can "cone" that tight... it looks impossable. I doubt I could pull it off like that with my stick. :| I can however circle strafe well...
but anyway that was something I've seen only once so far in almost 180 hours.

IT possible, i managed on DC to throw the chopper completly out of control and by that i mean backflips, spins, barrel rolls, all at the same time and then have it back in control before i hit the floor.

drop your throttle to about 20%-30%, point your nose down, and a li'l roll to one side and keep pointing your nose to one spot... fight it. the key is the throttle.

Yeah i remember i did that in Vietnam. You could make the cone small enough to keep itself in balance, so if you were close to the ground, bail and have it keep spinning like a top. :laugh:

Its done by adjusting your mouse sensitivity in the control options under helicopter and lots of practice.

How would mouse sensitivity increase your turn rate??

So why do we not have video of this yet? I am going to attempt this later this evening. I can circle strafe pretty easy (which is what I thought this was originally).

Now that I reteaching myself to fly the chopper with my x-52 joystick (formerly on a logitech force feedback), I will have to throw this lil tidbit into my learning curve heh.

Oh, I think I've seen it done a couple times too. I wasn't that impressed by the move though...

i dont know what exactly he did but i can basically do all the possible chopper movements with my keyboard, even lay down the heli horizontally and spin it around really really fast on an axis of its center. i dont use mouse to fly, neither choppers nor jets.

I"ve seen it done on the flag on SHarqi... the construction flag... the guy was coning over top of the building... in a VERY tight cone. I couldn't believe it.. he just went round and round.. like 10-15 times.
