Persistent World BF2 - like Planetside

Would you like to see a BF2 MMORPG/FPS done that played similar to the game Planetside? EA would need to do a little revamping of the game, but I think it would be kinda cool to see it taken to the next level in this way. The game could be based on a future global conflict that encompasses the whole of Earth so they'd have to do maps for everything from Antartica to the North Pole.

If you are familiar with the game Planetside, you'd know what I am talking about. If you are not familiar with it then you'll be in the dark as to what it is I am talking about. To find out about PS go here.

I think it could be done. I'm not sure if they would actually need subscription fees because they could generate the needed cash for the servers via in-game advertising. You know billboards and such.

That's something I've been wanting for a long time but nobody has been able to deliver a game like that. Planetside is ok but it's gameplay doesn't measure up to BF2.

This was taken from an article here http://www6.tomshardware.com/game/20...attles-04.html

One recent announcement by EA has hinted at the direction that the genre might take in the future. Tour of Duty is a new mode in Battlefield 2 involving multi-hour battles where the outcome affects each side's future strategy. This seems like nothing less than an attempt to move Battlefield 2 into the space currently occupied by Sony Online Entertainment's Planetside, a fee-based massively multiplayer FPS with a futuristic setting. Another game in particular seems very similar to the Tour of Duty mode: WWII Online is a simulation of the European theater of operations, where players pay a monthly fee to engage in battles that result in territory changing hands between Axis and Allied forces. Don't be surprised if Tour of Duty will also require a monthly fee to play, though it remains to be seen whether gamers will open their wallets for something that traditionally has been free.
I guess one of the questions would be would you be willing to pay a monthly subscription to play on a Persistent World BF2

Did you ever see WWII On-Line?
Hehe, good idea... very poor outcome.

It was an attempt to allow players to play out WWII free form. Each player picked a side to fight on and those sides would take over territory based on the outcomes of battles.

        Sounds good, eh?

        Well... it sucked. Hard.

Imagine getting shot down over France someplace, bailing out... then having to WALK back to base!

Naw... I'd much rather see mission or campain based gametypes than a BF PW.
