Nvidia Drivers 81.85 Install at own Risk!

I put this thread into the Client support area, but wanted to share it here also. Alot of people do not look at that forum to get important information.

Careful with the new Nvidia Drivers!

Version: 81.85
Release Date: October 20, 2005


Just downloaded and installed it on my PC. Just an FYI to all the BF:2 players out there. I installed this and it crashed in the middle of my BF:2 'Optimization'. It rebooted and everything appeared to be fine. However, when I tried to login it could not find my acct. information. I had to retreive it and the game lost all my key binds. I had about 15 unique key binds (for my joystick, and keyboard and mouse). Also, when i got in game I had that annoying voice that tried to explain the entire game over to me from scatch. The good news is that my rank looked untouched, which was a good thing. Just thought you guys might have wanted to know. I really don't see a big difference with my 6800gt card. The shadows still have that jagged edge which sux!

Just thought I would pass this info onto anyone that ran across the new drivers and thought that it would be great to install. IMHO If I were you, just stick with the ones you have.

I have them, they're running great, no problems here.

Did you completely remove all traces of your old drivers before you installed the new ones?

Nope.. that could have been the problem ;/ will do next time.. I should have known better

Those drivers crashed Winblows for me. They suck.

Wow, all feedback I've gotten about these drivers has been good.

I've had no problems, whatsoever.

Maybe revert back to the beta ones?

not removing your previous drivers completely will cause problems, this is the basic rule when it comes to drivers (vid card drivers even more) , it written everywhere, it's pointed out with capitols and !!!!!! in the TXT file, but still some people don't do it and then your system becomes a bitch

These are the best driver to date for me. Must be something wrong on your end or a bad install, or uninstall possibly. They work great with FEAR and Quake4 as well. Get drivercleaner and run it.

Working like a charm for me.

I havent noticed any real increase in performance, but not having any of the crashes others are talking about.

Nope, 81.85s are official WHQLs at nVIDIA.com.

As some of you already said:
Always remove current, clean 'nVIDIA Files' in Safemode using Driver Cleaner,
then install. And reboot whenever it tells you to.

No problems here. Sorry to hear about that, very frustrating
having stuff erased for no apparant reason, and having to do it again.

81.84 and 81.85 drivers are great. Now...if your computer crashes it is very possible that your config can get cleared. This can happen in almost any game. Your computer may not like these drivers, but if you crash during the game (with any driver) there is a chance your config can get wiped. If that happends good bye key binds and account information.

81.85 installed fine for me and BF2 worked. However I lost 500+ pts in 3DMark05 so went back to 78.01 (if it ain't broke, don't fix it...).
