Careful with the new Nvidia Drivers!

Just downloaded and installed it on my PC. Just an FYI to all the BF:2 players out there. I installed this and it crashed in the middle of my BF:2 'Optimization'. It rebooted and everything appeared to be fine. However, when I tried to login it could not find my acct. information. I had to retreive it and the game lost all my key binds. I had about 15 unique key binds (for my joystick, and keyboard and mouse). Also, when i got in game I had that annoying voice that tried to explain the entire game over to me from scatch. The good news is that my rank looked untouched, which was a good thing. Just thought you guys might have wanted to know. I really don't see a big difference with my 6800gt card. The shadows still have that jagged edge which sux!

Just thought I would pass this info onto anyone that ran across the new drivers and thought that it would be great to install. IMHO If I were you, just stick with the ones you have.

I doubt the new drivers caused your problem. Both myself and my friend have installed the new 81.85s and have had no problems.

They worked fine for me, in fact, they actually increased performance. I seriously doubt its the drivers that trashed bf2.

I'll repost this, because this seemed to be a problem for people in the other thread. Plus Hyper admitted he didn't even uninstall his old driver, let alone wipe it from his system.

I don't think you guys know the difference between uninstalling and fully cleaning the drivers from your system. You could very well end up with problems if you neglect a clean install of your drivers each time you update.

Or download Driver Cleaner, which will do the deleting and registry cleaning for you. Make sure you uninstall the existing drivers, then reboot in safe mode to run DC.

I upgraded to the 81.85 driver, and I saw a noticable change in the smoothness of the game. The random stuttering occurances I've been having have disappeared as far as I can tell so far.

Remember, you can say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", but ya gotta remember, these drivers are optimized specifically for new software, and it would be a really good bet that the driver authors took BF2 into account.

I am using 81.85 just fine.

No real performance boost though.

Oh yeah, and the texture bug in Op Clean Sweep is still there

I also reverted to the last drivers, What I was seeing was slices and flickers in game.

Yes I used driver cleaner. Yes I ran it in safe mode. I only have O/S Drivers, BF2, and 3dMark05 on this box.

Could it possibly be that there may be an issue with the drivers? Ummm when I went back all issues were gone... Ummmm I wonder.

LMAO.. I don't hate Nvidia and as far as spamming goes I plainly stated on my other thread in the General Forum at the top of my thread.

I guess you didn't read that? Or you just like coming here and spamming how great Nvidia is? Either way. I wanted to share my problem so that others can learn. Also I think this is like my 8th topic that I started in over 5 months. I hardly count that as spammage.

Ugh I just installed these and now I'm ****ed. I did it the right way I'm not a dumbass so dont yell at me these drivers suck ****.

They work fine for me. Don't say something is crap or it doesn't work just because it didn't work for you, you don't have your computer setup the exact same as anyone else, so there's gonna be differences.

nvm I ran into trouble, driver cleaner deleted my chipset drivers. So I just reinstalled them and all is fine now.

I tried them yesterday. Just after installing them my 3Dmark score dropped from 4300 to 4100 points. I do not play 3Dmark, but I treat it as a fairly objective tool to measure performance. Anyways, I rolled back to the 79.01 ones.

BTW Does any of you use custome drivers, if yes from which provider?
