Video Card Drivers - x800XL (choppiness)

Hello, I've noticed some weird issues in BF2, like choppiness ect..

Im currently only able to run the game with everything on low w/ 0aa decently
I mean, i can run it on everything on high but it has choppiness issues and its unplayable (flying, ect..)

    My current setup:
    amd athlon 3000+ o/c'd to 2.42ghz
    1gig of pc3200 mushkin memory
    abit nf7-s rev.2 mobo
    and a radeon x800XL video card w/ 256megs of ram O/C'd to 450mhz / 1600mhz (currently using the 5.6 catalyst drivers)

What i need is some recommendations on Video card settings, In-game tweaks to make it look the best and play the best on my current system, Currently bf2 is the only thing installed im runing window's xp professional w/ sp2

Everything is being ran in classic mode @ 1024x768 resolution, same with ingame.

    Thanks, Spin

Agreed here also. DDR400 2GB here, way better than previous one GB.

Memory prices were lowering steadily for a while there, they may still be down.
Highly recommend if you have a good vidcard like that to upgrade memory
so you can play with the settings you want.

BF2 doesn't like OC'ing. Check your temps on your card to make sure it isn't throttling itself back. I have an X850XTPE and it sometimes overheats during long playing periods.

Also you should be able to run some medium some high. Textures require the most memeory so turn them to med, dynamic lighting and shadows should be on medium, but everything else should be able to be cracked to high, with perhaps 2-4xx AA.

Also try updating your drivers to squeak out some extra performance if possible.

Upgrade graphic drivers to NGO cat 5.8. www.ngohq.com. They have an optimized setting for 256MB graphic cards and imho they are faster than the standard cat driver. Then you can try the following settings: Everything on medium except terrain on high and texturefiltering on high. Upgrading to 2gb ram will not solve you choppiness unless you currently have a crapload of services running in the background. If that's the case then you should start right there. I run with these settings on my X800XT with 1gb ram and I never have any harddrive activity when I play.
