Hey guys, does it matter what screen resolution u play? I've been playing at either 800 x 600 @ 170 hertz, or 1024 x 768 @ 140 hertz. My monitor supports both these refresh rates, and I keep in the same within the game. What are the pro's and con's to this. The last thread I read had most everyone playing at like 60 - 85 hertz. I'm confused to where the difference lies in the monitor refresh rate and the game selection refresh rate. Thanks for any help guys.......Remington Joe

the faster the hertz ( amount of time the vid card refreshes the entire screen ) , generally speaking, the better. As far as the resolution goes, its a matter of preferrance, higher is going to be better looking graphically speaking but also ( depending on your vid card ) less performance ( frame rates ). I run mine at 1280 by 1024 @ 70 Hz, with everything on.

The human eye can only see 60-80 frames per second, anything higher then 85 is just not worth it and a waste of power. Use that power to up the resolution if you can.

So, I should set my my monitor refresh rate, and the in game refresh rate, to know more the 85 hertz? Then whey does it go up so high in the game menu. Like 800 x 600 @ 170 hertz!

your hertz of your monitor isn't very important, as long as it's higher then your FPS it's OK , why putting the refresh rate of your monitor so high if your refresh rate of images (FPS) is only the half of it.

Better use a higher resolution, gives you more detail and easyer to spot enemy's and stuff

Ok so I've got my monitor set at 1024 x 768 @ 140 hertz. Is this good or should I back it down to 85 hertz as the threads above suggest. Then, should I have the in game settings match the monitor refresh rate etc. Or, is the in game setting the setting one I should set no higher the 85! Thanks for the replies guys!

I play at 1024 x 768 @ 140 hertz myself. No trouble here.

Really I could lower it and not notice a thing but why fix what isn't broken.

As stated before you will not notice a difference above 85Hz, the higher the refresh the harder it is on your monitor & the shorter its life.

That's not true. In airforce studies pilots were able to distinguish individual frames at several hundred FPS.

set it at what works for you.. I personally woud not go above 100hz. Just play with it and use fraps ( www.fraps.com ) to test your fps and set it where you try to get no less than 60 fps ( ideal )..

Do not I repeat do NOT lower your CRT refresh rate lower than 75herts
If you do, remember my words when you see that eye doctor when you go blind.

there is still a noticeable difference between 85 and 100herts, but above 100 the human eye could not make out any difference and thus a waste of power. Most people cant tell between 85 and 100 either, so I would suggest you stick with 85.
Now there is a noticeable difference between 75 and 85, although not that bad as 60, still I recommend 85 just because its what every monitor today supports and better for your eye.
