256, if you have the option to go with a higher memory size, go for it. It shouldnt cost much more and the extra memory helps, especially if you can overclock it. If your looking for med/high settings, go with a better card like the x800 and kick your memory up to 1.5GB. That should get you med/high at a good framerate. Your amd system doesnt look like you are going to be able to play on med/high. Your processor needs upgrading and your ram needs to be kicked up to at least 1GB, preferably 1.5GB. Your parents rig looks like it can hit that marker easily though.

I have a 9800 Pro 128MB with an AMD 64-Bit 3200+, 1024MB DDR, and I also run at 1280x1024 on all "High" settings, except for two which I have set to medium, but only because I feel it makes enemies blend into backgrounds less.

The Vid card should be good for another year or so, but I would think that your low RAM and processor would be a bottleneck. You'd be much better off putting it in your Parent's PC, as has already been suggested.

I have a 9800 pro 259 mb and it runs great.

My specs:
Amd 3400 64.
1 gig of pc3200 ram
Seagate 120 SATA HD

I run BF2 on medium and high specs and get between 40-50 fps. It runs Doom3, Halflife 2 and Far Cry on Medium to High specs as well.

My advice is to buy a bargain card now like a 9800 pro or 6600 GT because today's games look almost as good on them as the high end cards.

Lots of questions for a relatively cheap card.

They work fine like any other card you'll have to spend some time getting the biggest bang for the buck etc.

Someone posted don't spend more than 150??? Check e-bay you can get these for less than 100 bucks. Make sure to ask what memory it has on the chips.

Like I said before the a2 or 2a's ate the best.

Heck I think alot of people with really higher end cards like 7800's xt850 think their games is smoking great.

Grass moving etc, they probably don't even realise they are hiding in an open feild. Or the moving grass is hiding that sniper from view.

Currently I don't think investing alot in an AGP is the wise move anyways since they will not transfer to your new system.

Base cars 9800 pro 100 bucks tops probably more like ($80)
if it has 256mb 125 bucks tops probably more like ($100)

If is has an artic cooler ram sinks etc and the guy says 100% working no DOA full refund and will tell you what specs he got when overclocking. I'd pay 150 tops tops tops.

Did you guys realize he posted 4 times in different treads all about different cards generally answering questions with ????. I guess he is now informed and gonna pickup that 6200 and flash it to a 6600. Then overclock it to 6800 GT. Humm, I think that's the way I'd go personally. if I were him

Oh and by the way, that card your choosing don't. Whatever you do don't get that card, it's junk. It will cause nothing but spam and viruses. Seriously the 9800 Pro will crash your computer from time to time everyone knows this, but that card your thinking about sends p0rn to your mom, the worst part is its adressed from you.

I mean, if I were building a new system today, it would be silly for me to put a 9800 Pro in it when there are better options out now.

But saying that I wouldn't use a 9800Pro because somehow the card will crash my computer to desktop would just show that I don't know **** about computers, except that they're really smart and neat.

hmm :hmm: do that extra 128 mb make that kind of a difference?

i have amd 64 3000 1 gig ddr 9800pro 128 @440/360. If I put it all on high with that resuolution the game is unplayable.

Realistic settings as i've seen more ppl post with 9800pro128 are all settings on LOW with a few on MEDIUM and AA offfffff. A little above that and the game starts to stutter.

If i were the original poster i'd at least buy a pci-e mobo and go with something in the 6 series of nvidia or if budget permits in the 7 series

i've ordered the geforce 7800gtx so he can have my 9800pro 128

ya good budget card - I have a proXT and play all the latest games - cant say for a pro but should work well

i have a AIW 9800 Pro. Haven't came across a game i couldn't play yet. But i don't play the latest games like Doom and all that.

But i play BF2 at med some high and have no problems.
