The speed of the jets in BF2 is greatly exagerated. The speed of sound varies with altitude and other variables buts its roughly around 750 knotts at sea level and roughly 600 knotts at 35,000 feet. A real FA-18s top speed is about mach 1.7 and a F-15 about mach 2.5 but they have to be at high altitude to achieve these speeds. In a real jet you would never even be able to reach a speed of 1000 knotts at all in this game given the confines of the map ( you would need a much bigger map). As far as altitude it is greatly reduced in this game. A real FA-18 could reach a ceiling of about 60,000 feet and a real F-15 about 104,000 feet although if a decompression occured at that kind of altitude it would kill the pilot instantly. A real F-15 would be the fastest of all the jets in this game although in the game I dont think it is. In real life the only fighter plane with a higher top speed than the F-15 is the MIG-25. They are both high altitude planes and cant haul that kind of ass at low levels. In real life the FA-18 would be the slowest in the game.

I didnt need to research my speed of sound figures i just calculated them from 340.29 meters/second using a flight calculator
[340.29 being correct to two decimal places (something i learnt for my B-Tec in Aviation Studies)]

The Accelleration point for the Mig29 was a theoreticly possaible senario, and is to my knowlege possable.

im sorry if i seemed to be bitching on and what not... ive been in foul humor recently with a lot of bad luck. (i wont go into detail but bad luck is an understatment)

anyway im sorry to have upset you and all that.

I do agree in principal that the game Does Exagerate the true phisics of flight by far. aswell as falling short on some other aspects of flight.

Any way this is my last post on this thread

I want to fly like a few thousand feet and have dog fights, lazer bombing would be fun.
