Re: THe new Artillery Lemmings - Air Support Lemmings

It comes down to the fact that often pilots can bomb and kill in almost complete safety. It sometimes seems that the players on the ground are an inconvenience and should all be hiding in bunkers so they can bomb everything that moves, or bomb it until it does move.

We all know if you go AA you are far more likely to hit your own aircraft because the enemy jet gets a warning. This gives the enemy pilot a chance to take counter measures causing your missile to lose interest and seek out the nearest friendly target. A target that gets no warning and can do sod all about it. I have yet to see a pilot who doesn't punish when they are downed by a friendly missile, yet they soon complain if they get punished for indiscriminate bombing TK's.

If you can't see it's safe on the map then should you be bombing blind?? That is no different to chucking grenades about left right and centre without making sure there are no friendlies about.

If your not sure why not have a flyby then return and bomb?

There is a big hole in the originators argument. He states that he has gone to assist players who have requested help. How does he know where they are if the mini-map is so inadequate?

When making a bombing run... there is NO WAY POSSIBLE to see if a PERSON is standing next to an ENEMY TANK trying to C4 it.

I have a KILLER gaming machine and due to draw distance in the game... it just IS NOT POSSIBLE! The only way you can safely bomb is to bomb on "traffic routes." Never bomb anywhere near a friendly dot on the map.

Of course then everyone bitches because you are "not helping the team"... blah blah blah.

You know what... heck with it... I'll bomb anywhere, anytime I please. If you are in the way... OOPS. Go ahead and punish... because you'll do it wether I was sorry or not. ..i..

Boy, I'm shedding some real crocodile tears for those poor pilots who have to go through the hassle of making sure those pesky friendly ground troops aren't getting in the way of their 55 kills. I'll punish a jet dropping it's ordnance on me in a heartbeat. I don't play this game to be cannon fodder for a pilot just so he can clobber a nice juicy target. If you can't determine if friendlies are in the area, then don't be dropping your bombs.

What has a better chance of taking out a tank?

          You, on foot?
          ::OR::
          Jet, in SKY?!??!

Team game fools. Call that tank out, take cover... and wait for the angels in the sky to drop some goodies on him... before you try the RAMBO maneuver on a tank. Your chances of living are MUCH better.

Re: THe new Artillery Lemmings - Air Support Lemmings

The difference between a safe bomb drop and a tk drop is not decipherable via the mini map when its in the zoom you need to use to be an effective pilot. If you're all sorts of zoomed in on your mini map so you can tell where your infantry(who are usually hiding, trying not to be seen) is, you won't see you're target area on the mini map until after you needed to drop.

I myself drop only single bombs, and can hit a tank square every time, so I get very few tk's and can provide airstrike support even if my forces are closing with the target area, but its inevitable that there is going to be some C4 guy who feels like "I dunno how, but I'll somehow pull this off againt 3 pieces of armor" who is trying to stay unseen that will die and punish, even though you just enabled your forces to come into that base.

There's stupidity, dropping a f15 load on a base with 5 blue dots...but that's not what good pilots do, and good pilots still get punished alot. Lay off the page down key noobs.

Re: THe new Artillery Lemmings - Air Support Lemmings

What about the pilots who bomb a flag with no armour present? What are they hoping to achieve? That some how the force of the explosion will make the flag change to their team??

If the minimap is useless to a pilot then the last persons fault it is is the special ops guy planting C4!!

I have seen good pilots go an entire rounds getting little or no TK's. How come they can do it and some can't? Don't complain if you get punished for your own inadequacies.

At the end of the day pilots end up with so many points that a few punishes make no difference to their score anyway. My main reason for punishing is that if they do it repeatedly then they get kicked from the server, that and you know it ****es them off.

You should hate to think of what's going to happen in the future when ppl of that kind of mentality get into jobs that give them positions of power over others, when they are in a position where their decisions can damage people's lives.

                Now we're talking scary!

Not to say they're the only ones... there are a lot of people all around us (in positions of power) who would have been playing BF2 in the past (if they'd had the chance, if there had been a BF2) in exactly the same way, with the same attitudes as the smacktards you refer to.

Re: THe new Artillery Lemmings - Air Support Lemmings

In defence of my original post and a comment made about the 50/1 ratios, its very rarely that I ever get into a plane but on the map in question, it was free so I decided to get in some flying time. I said already Im not the greatest pilot in BF2 by far, but it happened that there were a lot worse pilots in the server at the time.

The reason the TKs happened is because after calling for support, the SPec Ops guys were running from the cover they had to try and C4 the armour. At the speed the planes go, you can hardly see them until you're over the top of them. My eyes are on the targetr armour, not on the little guy trying to sneak up behind them.

If Im playing as infantry and dont have anything to use against armour thats attacking a flag Im at, I try to keep moving around the flag base so that it cant be capped, and call for assistance. Then I stay under some reasonable cover until the help arrives.

As far as punishing goes, teamkills happen and I always forgive unless its something blatant like being shot in the head so that someone can take a vehicle that Im going for.

I turned the day around though game wise and managed two good 120+ scores with a good squad who followed orders and kitted themselves out as per instructions.

If I was on Karkand (thats an urban map with no aircraft for you pilots out there :p ) and team mates called for backup to the hotel. I then run up and start throwing grenades into the courtyard without checking for team mates then I'd be a Noob. Why isn't it the same for a pilot who effectively does exactly the same?

How are foot soldiers supposed to know your about to bomb the hell out of the place??

havent you been reading any replies? its because pilots are better than you. you should be grateful whenever a pilot deigns to stop bombing the uncapable spawn and comes to nuke a single enemy foot soldier, you and the rest of your squad before going back to the enemy spawn point.

All they need to do is increase the 3D map draw distance to how it was in BFV.

There would be a LOT less TKing if that were the case.

Goes right back to all the other threads, something has to be done to the jets. Quadruple the TK points for bombing their own,or better yet--immediate 5 minute ban, and they must land, turn around and wait 2-5 minutes to repair/rearm. I still firmly beleive that the jets must be removed from the game, but I know it won't happen. So they have to be discouraged from using them or their use made very limited. A single shot never miss AA weapon of some sort would be very welcome too.

Your right, I'm sorry! I have emailed Dice and asked them to add a new squad command called 'Pray To The Metal Birds'. That will direct your squad to the nearest available flag and If your squad pray hard enough the birds will crap on you from a great height one second from capping the flag. And to show how grateful you are the Metal bird gets an extra 50 points for being so considerate. The command will also disable the punish button to prevent any accidental punishes.

Your teammate pilots will get a warning tone when any missle has a lock on them, friendly or not. The moment the missle aquires them, they get a solid buzzer, and it remains on until it either loses track or explodes. I've never been blown out of the sky by a stray friendly missle without a warning, albiet possibly a short one, first.

I see both sides of the arguement with the plane TKs. As a pilot, I don't bomb indescriminately, but mistakes do happen. Checking the minimap before every drop is good practice but isn't always practical. Mistakes happen, just as you said you've mistakenly gone into arty strikes because you were too focused. Lighten up m8! It's bad for your health to hold a grudge you know! :) Now if a pilot is bombing everything that moves no matter the color of the "blip", then he deserves a kick in the pants!
