CTD after trying to patch 1.03.

Hi all. I am having a problem CTD after patching to 1.03. Now I know lots of people are having similar problems but this one seems to be slightly different in that I can load the game, log in to my account, access Options and BFHQ, but CTD everytime as soon as I try to access the servers through "Multiplayer". I can't play "Singleplayer" either so no BF2 whatsover

I have tried all sorts of things suggested in other threads including: full manual uninstall and install (following EA's instructions); moving patch file and running it from DOS; extracting patch from CD as suggested at http://forums.totalbf2.com/showthread.php?p=165802; downloading the patch again (3 times!); downloading and running pbweb.exe; deleting cache files; and finally changing refresh rates and resolution.

I know that you'd prefer to have a solution than another "have you tried this?" post but :

Could you let memtest run over night just to see if your memory is ok. I haven't come across someone with your problem (i.e. error ept0009: Invalid Patch File) that gave up on the game. It normally works but after trying a LOT of times.


BTW, error ept0009 = PATCH.EXE was unable to read correct information from the patch file. The specified file is either not a patch file or has been corrupted. Get a new copy of the file and rerun PATCH.


The MD5 hash of the patch is : 63b68d4904cb59d09932553052a741dd

This is the only way to know if what you have downloaded is the *real* patch

Thanks ptegan I will try memtest. In the meantime could you please tell me what MD5 means and how I know if the patch is real?

Ok I ran memtest to about 5500% and got no RAM errors. Then I ran the MD5 Hash utility I found at http://www.whitsoftdev.com/md5/ on my 1.03 patch.exe file and the result was 63b68d4904cb59d09932553052a741dd which I think is the same hash ptegan gave.

So I'm out of ideas. Might try installing BF2 and patch 1.03 on another PC and then copying all the game files over to the home PC on CD or DVD. Or just give up and find another game I guess!

Try applying the patch when Windows is in safe mode.

Tried patching in safe mode, but same result as before.

Also to KingOfChaos I have tried only using 1.03, but again same result.

Perhaps someone could e-mail me their copy of the patch.rtp file (not the whole patch - just the rtp file) - since the patchlog.txt says mine is invalid? I'm at wr.naylor@btinternet.com

ok i got it working, i had virtually sme problem, hope this helps

1)uninstall battlefield 2 using the options version NOTE: ONLY WORKED FOR ME IF I UNINSTALLED IN GERMAN)

2)download patch from www.fileshack.com
(you will need a login and password but it is free)

3) install game as normal

4)install patch 1.03 (in english)

i dont know why it worked in german but everytime i tried in english i got problems ah well.

I had this same problem, CTD at the moment of entering a server, when selecting kit n squad. Solution was to get a patch file from other location.
The 1st file didn't reported any error, but had installed it a couple of times and no success till new file from other DLlocation (can't remember where).

Tried uninstalling, installing and patching again using a different patch from a different source. Exact same result as before: error ept0009 invalid patch file after trying to apply HISTORY File Patch for 'mods\bf2\Objects_client.zip'

So thanks for the help guys but think I'll quit while I'm behind and try something else. Anybody suggest any other good FPS?

Post ur pc's specs.
Do have problems in any other programs?
That seems a hardware failure (CD, DVD, Hdrive or PSU or Internet connection... ram have been tested). Have tested SP offline?

Ok not sure how to post my specs, but here goes:

Computer Manufacturer: ASRock
CPU Manufacturer: AuthenticAMD
CPU Family: AMD Athlon(tm) XP
CPU Speed: 2323 MHz
Front-Side Bus Speed: 200 MHz
Currently Installed Memory: 512 MB

What else should I post?

Also had a strange thing happen with memtest last night: ran it again and it found about 20 errors within 2 minutes. Then when I ran it again it found nothing within 2 hours, so I started thinking maybe memtest is on the blink?

Anyway I have ordered another stick of 512MB RAM from Crucial. Maybe this will help overcome my patching problems. If not then at least I will have 1GB of RAM for other uses.

Well need always full (but summarized) specs.
In urs is missing kind of vid card, hard disk, type of mother board and (if possible) psu power.
Do u have anything over clocked?
Tho, my other quest., can u run SP offline?

When u receive that extra ram, u should try with that one alone.
That's the best way so see if is there anything wrong w/ the 1 one, or use meanwhile one from a friend (alone in ur pc).
