X-Fi won't enable! on my X-Fi card

On the battlefield 2 Sound Options screen. When I select X-Fi from the drop down list and click apply the game crashes to desktop. When I go back in it is back to hardware.

Is there a way to enable it without going into the game? (edit a cfg file or ini file)

On another note:
I tryed to upload my dxdiag.txt file and got this message sever times before giving up: Connection closed by remote server

Had the same problem with my X-fi card.

Pre-note* when i installed the new card i DID uninstalled the drivers/software for the audigy 2. But that wasn't enough.

To fix this issue I had to uninstall the X-fi drivers/software boot xp into safemode. use http://www.drivercleaner.net/ to clean the registry of all the keys and what not. Then i deleted the the C:\Program Files\Creative folder, rebooted then reinstalled the x-fi drivers/software. This seems to fix the issue and bf2 doesn't crash anymore.

I have the exact problem and it rears it's ugly head far to often for my liking. I can log out the game come back and start to play and realise I have no sound at all, go to the sound options and see it's reverted my sound settings to "audio_settings" and then I cannot select my X-fi as it tell's me it's not compatabile. Then have to go through the procees as the poster above mentioned to get it to recongise it once more.

I do not change the settings, my other games pick up the card with no problems. So what gives more sloppy bugs then in BF2

It can also be because you aren't in the X-Fi game mode. You should be in Game Mode to select the proper x-fi options.
I select the Ultra High Creative settings, and later have swithed to Entertainment Mode in X-fi, then of course it doesn't reconize the settings as they have changed. So use the Game mode and latest drivers..

It's never get's changed from game mode but it still does it, even if I'm listening to music it's still on the game mode setting as I'm to lazy to change it :p

It worked fine, thanks. I had trouble installing from the org disk that came with the sound card, then I downloaded the latest drivers from creative. But I did not use driver cleaner.

After I cleaned the drivers everything is working.

RIGHT ON THE MONEY! This is the cause of all those problems listed above.
