Ground/Air Defense Badges

UBAR states to achive these [basic] you have to spend 5 minutes in Ground Defense (Mounted MG or TOW) / Air Defense (Stinger or AA Vehicle) respectfully.

I did this [timed it on a stopwatch.. actually went well over the required 5 mins], but didnt get the award.. Is it a requisite that you also get a kill with said equipment too??

Nope no need for a kill -- just stay in the actual emplacement and you WILL get it (I did this recently and it took just over 5 mins -- closer to 10)

I don't think it takes more time, it just takes time to register.

Air Defense takes a little longer than Ground Defense.

Don't you have to have 11 kills plus your time to get the Air Defense ribbon?

I believe you have to be under fire at some point.

I got ribbon and badge by killing choppers.

Badge = time served, no kills

Ribbons = time & kills


Just sit it out, and it'll happen. Don't remember how long it took me, but I do believe it was over 5mins. Suggested spots - TOW @ USMC base on Daging Oilfields, Stinger @ Chinese main on Dragon Valley...think that's where I got both of mine.
