You people sound as if those few servers that wish to use filters are trying to force you to never cuss in any game ever. They only filter their server, dont worry once you leave there server and join another the filter should be gone.

    You use arguments like:
"I got booted for cockpit." So tell the server to fix thier filter, this has nothing to do with this discussion. It supports niether side and is not at all relevant.

"Kids say worse in school" Just cause my children may hear these words in school dose not mean that they have to be inundated with them at every possible opportunity. The last time I was in school I got in quite a bit of trouble for telling somone to "**** off".

"If you are old enough to own this game you are old enough to hear cuss words" This should be "If you are old enough to buy this game you are old enough to understand language filters are an option not a requirement." then you would realize there are more than two servers and lots of them let you speak your mind in any way you choose.

"its a game about killing virtual soldiers." yes, with all the fun and none of the horror.

The bottom line is your arguments are all crap because language filters are OPTIONAL. You are the ones trying to force your beliefs on others. Play the game and stfu.

How do you determine what is ok and what isn't?

You're trying to equate apples and oranges.

Here's the thing: You are trying to tell us what is right and wrong. You can't accept that that is just your opinion. I respect that as an opinion, but to say people are wrong for wanting to filter foul language is just ridiculous. Don't tell people how they should run their servers or their lives.

By the way, I don't get offended by swearing. But I think if someone wants to run a clean server, they should be able to. I actually prefer it, because it weeds out the little kiddies. It's mostly the younger/more immature crowd that is using gratuitous swearing, and I'd rather play with people that are more my age/maturity level.

          this BS again???

look, its like this - take responsibility for yourself. if you can't follow the rules, don't bitch about it when you get punished for not following the rules. its that simple.

That said, I have a question for all the admins and server owners out there who put a filter on their servers that catch language.

Although you pay for the server and you're well within your rights to administer any rules you see appropriate, I must ask, why, in a game that awards merit for shooting people in the face with a bazooka, picking off people from a distance with a .50 caliber sniper rifle intended to disable vehicles, gives awards for sneaking up behind people and slitting their throats with a knife, etc. would you deem it inappropriate for me to tell the jackass on my team who just teamkilled me point blank with a shotgun to "FCK OFF"?

I must know why in a game that is rated Teen 13+ the server admins must take it upon themselves to administer what words should and shouldn't be said?

Now, I have heard such arguments as:

"I want to keep the family atmosphere in my server" -- I really don't think an 8-year-old should be playing a game in which you shoot people for points

"Some people in here aren't 18+" -- Have you EVER been 13? Personally, I heard more swearing in middle school than I hear at a COLLEGE FRAT PARTY!

"It's supposed to be a fun game" -- Again, we're shooting people for points in this game... it is fun; for those who are mature enough to play it... if you don't want your 8 year old seeing curses, don't let him play a game where he carries an M16 and blows people to bits with a grenade launcher. It's a VIOLENT game intended for MATURE people... GET OVER IT

Just looking to see if anyone else feels my pain, or if the Admins of these "Disneyland" servers have any wonderful insight that might allow me to see your side, given my points above.

            Thanks
            Well,

For our server we ban because all the paying players have decided they do not want to see swearing. Primarly because swearing usually leads to arguments and if we wanted to see arguments, we would go onto public servers or discussion groups like this

Your right that it does sound hypocritical when you cant swear but you can blow someones brains out but even that has been watered down in BF2. Theres no blood and you respawn rather than being dead for the game so its not really that realistic. We are just making sure the language is equally watered down.

            All the best

Well, this has actually been a good discussion and I appreciate everyone's input... To the contrary, I can and do accept my opinion as opinion... I don't believe I have told anyone they're wrong during this discussion... I have merely stated my opinions and asked that those that hold an opposing one defend theirs... Thats all... just two opinions being put together and defended. Thats all I ever intended this thread to be. I see both sides... I see the side that says that it's their server and they can run it their way. I see that there are thousands of servers and I should find one that allows me to play in my own way... Both excellent arguments... My argument was saying that I disagree (not that the opposing opinion is somehow wrong) with server owners' decisions to filter language. I don't know about you guys but for me and my friends, cursing has always been a part of playing online games... it is sometimes just amusing... Immature, perhaps (thats your opinion)... I find it amusing when it's not OVER used...

You people have far to much to say on this subject.

                Just follow the server rules.

there are many admins out there who just boot/kick you for no reason att all, or reasons they find fair

                  - killing the admin to much gets you kicked sometimes
                  - killing the admins friends to much gets you kicked sometimes
                  - admin is second on server and you are first, he kicks you for gold medal (happens)
                  - you TK the admin in an accident, you get kicked

                  etc...

Re: Booted for language... my $0.02

I'd say let the words through that you're going to hear anyway because they're programmed in to the game, and block the others with "****" thingies. I leave servers where I see people cursing very much over the chat box. I cuss plently in real life, but I have never cursed in an online game. Ever. Not even over the comms.

There's no point to it. It doesn't help me respawn faster if I've been killed, it doesn't help me get my revenge on the guy, it would just make me look like a fool. It wastes time when I could be scanning the spawn map while I'm dead, planning strategies, running around, etc... Sure, I'll be passively cussing my monitor out the whole time, but I keep my mind on the game.

My moto: Less cursing, more playing. I'm not joining a team of people who insist upon distracting themselves by attempting to type the worlds longest series of curse words.
