Question about framerate!

For High graphics settings with no anti aliasing quality, what framerate should I get? Specs are as follows:

P4 2.8GhZ w/ HT Technology
128MB ATI All in wonder 9600xt
1gig of pc3200 ddr ram
sound blaster audigy gamer

if theres anymore things u need, just post here..oh yeah, and i'm on 1152x864@60hz ingame

The best way to find out if you have enough FPS is to not look at the FPS counter, but rather take notice of FPS only if the framerate start to annoy you. It is different from person to person what they feel is fluid enough.

Not sure what you should get on that system, but I personally wouldn't run it on HIGH, this by just looking at your specs.


Regarding HIGH vs. MEDIUM.

The difference in quality between MEDIUM and HIGH is very little as opposed to the the difference between LOW and MEDIUM. The difference in FPS between HIGH and MEDIUM is noticalbe though.

So don't run at HIGH for the sake of HIGH, unless you can see the difference and most of the settings you can't, and especially not when there's action going on in BF2.

So it is better to get the more FPS by knowing which you can easily run in MEDIUM without much loss in quality but a great gain in FPS.

It seems to be the trends on most BF2 forums to be more concearned about if ppl can run on HIGH rather than asking why they want to run on HIGH, and if they can tell the difference between HIGH and MEDIUM, while playing.
I guess that is why some ppl also say they are able to run at the 'ULTRA HIGH" tweak, eventhough there's no difference between it and HIGH, and it is a useless tweak.

Your graphics card is the close brother to my 9600 AIW Pro card, and you have the same ammount of RAM, so I can make a decent guess at this, as the CPU doesn't enter into the picture very much. I'd say if you put everything on high, you'd get a pretty lousy frame rate. Could be looking at 30-35, which isn't too bad, but it would probably dip down into the twenties a lot, where it stops looking good. (that's assuming that your graphics card is better than mine as well)

And in the case of "Ultra High" settings... You know how upping your geometry settings and texture filtering can let you see things from further away? That applies with the Ultra High settings. For all the other settings, I can't say that I saw a difference, but with those settings on "Ultra High" I could see targets from far away somewhat better.

*Sigh. It's pretty much worse on Medium than on high...

On medium..its hard to explain. ITS SCREWED UP...Like, geometries start flashing all over the screen and rotate in a triangular prism form..i don't know how else to explain this oddity.

In my experiance things like that are caused by overlocking your card to high, or the card overheating. If it only happens on medium settings, then it's something much less common apparently. There's an outside chance that your cache is corrupted or damaged in some way, and deleting it may help. That's how it was for me more than once.

Also try ATItool go for memory over a GPU O/C on that card

with that specs, on 1024 x 768, high settings, you can't get over 15 fps, that is that.

i had ATI X600XT 256 MB PCI-e until this week when i upgraded it to geforce 7800 gt

my PC is P4 3.0 ghz, 2 GB DDR (now it is 4 GB but i ll give you the fps results when i had 2 GB both video cards)

with ATI (which is a lot better and faster than what you have) i could get around 20 fps with 1024 x 768 high settings (dynamic shadows and lighting is turned OFF)

now with this video card i can get over 60 fps on 2048 x 1536 at high settings
on 1600 x 1200, everything set to high i can get over 100 fps.

for both resolutions i use 16 AA and 4 AF where as in ATI they were all turned off.

You do the math. ATI sucks bad. I have used ati for 5 years, but i won't anymore. Price-performance is just not good anymore. Geforce has much better graphics and technology and geforce is built for gaming whereas ATI covers a larger area of computer applications.
