    Nvidia 6800 problem

Just took delivery of a brand new Dell with a GeForce 6800 video card and a widescreen 24" monitor. My problem is that after playing a few rounds, the textures get progressively worse and worse. I get weird blocky images from tanks and trees that stretch the length of the screen. The longer I play, the worse it gets. I downloaded the latest driver from Nvidia (77.79) but the problem remains. Tech support has been great and they are committed to finding a solution, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similiar problem and what they did to fix it. I put all settings on the lowest possible settings and don't have anything running in the background. I also have 1 gig of RAM.

For what it's worth, playing this game at 1600 x 1200 on a 24" widescreen gives immersion a whole different meaning Now if I could only get to play it for more than a half hour at a time.

Sounds like a heat problem... Try taking the side off the case and blowing a fan over your graphics card.

Also you didn't state which processor you have, it's possible your CPU is throttling down to 50% b/c of heat CPU temperature etc.

Actually the latest driver is 78.01:

Try uninstalling and reinstalling drivers this way:

Thanks for the reply. The driver you linked to is for the 6600. Do you think I should try it for the 6800 to see if it resolves the problem?

The driver listed is for all nvidia geforce cards, there aren't specific drivers for each card.

Look in the release notes fro 78.01:

On page 32 (38) go to THE RELEASE 75 DRIVER -> Hardware and Software Support -> Supported NVIDIA Products and see the list of supported nvidia cards.

There aren't many differences between 77.77 and 78.01, as it only adds support for the 6500 card. Still cleaning the drivers and reinstalling would be a good idea.

i have a 6800 and it runs great. sound like you have a problem. if you are overclocking or have unlocked disabled hardware features, such as extra pipelines, stop doing so it does not appear to be helping you any. also get the latest version of windows and nvidia drivers. they work great for me.

Could be a heat problem, could also be that this is the most graphics intense game yet. I run 1600x1200 all options on high. I also have 2 gigs ram. I recommend you get another gig. I also have the 6800 ultra, no such problem ever. Card could be bad. Run aqua mark 3 (google it) and see if it runs ok. Mine scored 59000 points.
Try this, delete the BF2 folder in my documents. Don't worry it will replace it completely when you restart the game. Then delete the nvidia driver in add remove programs. Empty recycle bin. Restart / boot computer. After this cancel the found new hardware stuff. Reinstall latest driver. Reboot again. Run game. See how this does.

                Re: Nvidia 6800 problem

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I tried the aquamark test and got 50,910. My knowledge of this sort of thing is very limited, but I wonder if it is a memory problem with the video card. The reason I say that is because I can play a round or two before the glitches begin to occur, and then they get progressively worse (quickly). I took the case cover off to get more air circulating around it, but that didn't make any difference (I don't think it's overheating as there is a pretty good sized fan on it and I don't have problems with it while running other programs). I know it's not the game itself because I play it on my old computer with no problems whatsoever.

I did read on another website something about the RMA'ing the card. Anyone know what the hell that means? I think I may end up sending the computer back as I've tried everything, including installing a variety of different drivers (after uninstalling the old ones and running a driver cleaning program). I'm stumped and disappointed.

This is what my screen looks like when it starts going to hell. (the link goes to another thread screenshot)
