    D-Fence

Is there anybody else here that likes playing defense? It seems that the moment a flag is taken, every tears off somewhere else. Often, I stay behind knowing that enemies are probably en-route to defend or recapture their flag. I love sticking a chopper with a missile, or using a mounted machine gun to mow down the guys on foot who are blundering into my area.

This is my house, and you can't have it.

I will plant mines and C4. I will hide in the buildings when you arty me. I will lob grenades around the pole - because you cannot have my flag. If I am overmatched, I will withdraw, but when you leave I will still be there, reclaiming the flag.

Just curious if anybody else enjoys the defensive role. My favorite time was when I was on a squad full of defenders. The enemy just kept washing up against our unbreakable wall, and if the bodies didn't disappear, they would have become a mountain.

I don't exclusively defend, but if I'm near, I'm one of the only one's running, or hauling ass if I'm in a chopper. When I'm in a jet, out comes the bombs.

Some games become a virtual marry-go-round of flag capping between teams. It gets really lame.

Bad idea to stick around at one flag and wait. Bad for you and your team.

What is really vital to the winning part of BF is a good offense, not defense.

How do I play defense?-> Everytime I respawn I check the flag to see whether it is being tampered with (going down) by the enemy, if so i scout around the flag until I cap the sucka or he caps me .

Just like any other game, offense gets the glory. Defense wins the game.

          Gotta hold those flags.

It depends on the map. I love to play D on some maps, say Sharqi at the Heli spawn/TV tower thing. Also Songhua at either main base. I get irritated too when I see half a dozen guys coming to take what IMO is a vital base, and there's just me and maybe one guy there trying to stave off the flood. That's when I'm most likely to bust out the noobtube hehe.

when spec-ops -- i just lay down c4 within a 30 foot area around the flag then i take off for the next flag -- wait and watch till the flag turns white and then boom

I like playing defense. It seems to me that it is easier to rack up some kills and you won't get thrown off the server. Though I have only done this once, I think it is going to be my main tactic.

I love defending. I consider it a pragmatic form of the ambush.

Ambush is sweet. Like when a tank comes over the hill at Kubra from the American base, and you toss a frisbee on top of it. Usually possible only because some guy took off without getting a turret gunner. Luckily, that happens often. About half the tanks I see are solo.

This is defense, let the enemy come to you. But don't wait endlessly. You should let your gut tell you if they are on their way. If your flag is surrounded by three enemy flags, you can likely bet that they will be showing up soon.

I think you don't see as much defense, because many defensive tactics result in TK. Like when you mine or claymore your flag area or choke points. This has been talked to death. I no longer rely on any teammates avoiding the mines. C4 is the only way to go, but even that is a pain. Like the time that I set explosives at both ends of a barn with a flag inside. And 4 of my own guys were milling around, perhaps trying to guess what was inside the pretty packages. An enemy APC rolled up, and I missed my chance to torch it because of all the bunnies hopping around my explosives.

The one that really astonished me was when I mined the road deep into the Kubra uncapturable US base, and got a TK. I never expected people to go down in there. After all, why would they? Far better to guard the only two roads out. Don't worry, people will be sprinting down the road soon enough. :)

                      Nobody expects the inquisition!

And on pubbys, nobody expects a defense

I like defending too, when one or two guys give backup, a base can become a real powerhouse!
