amd or intel upgrade

my current specs r in my sig, I am desiding between these 2 choices

1.I want to do some upgrading here at the beginning of november. I want to maybe go to AMD i would get the 3000+ and a the asus sli deluxe mobo and a new case and new ram all this would cost 700 bucks.

2.or I would stay with intel and get a the new case and the asus sli deluxe mobo and that is all i would need, this would cost 350 bucks

If i did the second optoin i would go to AMD when ever they change over to ddr2 so i would spend less money

or i could not upgrade anything

any thoughts or anything i need to know plz respond, THANK YOU

I would normally say go with AMD but you've already got a good system and if you really want to get an upgrade then i would go the cheapest way about it.

yeah i really want to upgrade something but my first choice was a 7800gtx but i only have a 300watt ps thats not good enough. but do u know when amd might go ddr 2

i dont know its 700 bucks and i wont have as much money later down the line when AMD releases there new line of cpu's that support ddr2 ram i dont wanna spend 200 bucks for ram when i alrdy have 2gbs

That was my point, stick with the intel for a bit longer and get a new case. I'd wait for the full 64-bit version of windows and upgrade to 64 AMD processor and that then

DDR2 is a waste right now. NOTHING uses it. By time something makes use of it, they'll have faster and better structured RAM/Mobos for DDR2, so don't both with it . . . yet.

Why upgrade your VGA? There's no point. You already have a 6800GT and from personally experience it CAN handle BF2 at the max. Buying a 7800GT/X would be a waste as within a year next gen cards will be released.

t is possible that your CPU could be bottlenecking your VGA. It seems to be the case with all inte chips. On your next build, definitely go AMD. I've owned intel all my life (from about age 7-present). Making the switch to AMD was quite frightening. However, AMD blows intel out of the water, no doubts. I'd also suggest you get an X2. It's and AMD dual core processor. Dual core's put Hyper Threading and the price put on X2s are relatively cheap, compared to other Dual Cores on the market.

Do you need to upgrade now? No. But when you do go AMD. Don't buy into all of this new technology just yet, it'll be a waste. Give your system at least another 6months to a year. Save up your money from now until then this way you can go top line AMD processor/video card/mobo. Upgrading now would be a waste. Hold onto your system for a while longer. As long as you keep good maintenence on it, it'll do just fine.

On a side note, if you REALLY wanted a 7800GT/X, why let your 300W PSU stop you? Just go out and buy a Fortron 500W PSU, or an Ernemax PSU. They aren't all that expensive. Just realize if your PSU blows out on you, it could very well fry your components. I've seen it happen, and it's not pretty. I know PCs can be expensive, just like upgrading a car. But just as you'd buy the GOOD winter tiress for your car, buy good components for your system. It may cost you more, but it's better to be safe than to be sorry.

Wow, the only thing on your current system I would upgrade would be the hard drive. If I was building a new system right now I'd probably build something otherwise equivalent to your current system (except with AMD CPU).

For either option you will also need a new psu as Dell use strange connectors, and it will definately not be man enough for an SLI rig, assuming that you going for 2 cards. If not, you sure you've currently got a pci-e setup?

Cant you play on 12x10 with all settings on high? I've a comparable system to you & I can. I've decided that as long as I can play on high settings I wont throw money at a rig with an extremely limited shelf life.

Why do you want to upgrade? I'd wait a little longer and use your system as is, maybe buy another fast hard drive. Whatever you do, dont buy a pre built Dell POS.

well the case i want has a 500watt ps, so i dont need a new one, its the aspire x-navigator

haha, Intel has been OWNED when it comes to computing when compared to AMD. heres one of MANY examples of AMD beating out Intel.

AMD all the way!! I just upgraded from a 2.8 intel and I am glad I did! Intel is just over priced and too hot.
