Is being in a clan worth it?

Just a question that I thought about today
is being in a clan worth it? the reason why I ask is that clans I was told play the game correctly and gain much better results and faster at unlocking weapons and gaining ranks without cheating.

I am not yet good, so please don't ask me yet as I am new and still learning the ropes so to speak and just enjoying the game and trying to lead my team to certain death. lol. Just more interested what it is like and do you play in teams and enjoy the game as it creates a much better performance and you can learn to work together. Although sometimes it can get frustrated if the other side clans are much better due to wiping you out in seconds. I bet that must get to some people.

simon73: I consider myself an average player and simply don't have enough time during the week to play enough to get much better. As such I get waxed pretty quickly when playing on a server with some dedicated clan players as well. BUT I can sometimes manage to join a squad of clansmen and enjoy some great teamwork. I learn a lot that way too. Implying that joining a clan can be a good thing. I've spent time trying to find a clan to join but not sure of the best way to go about that. If you decide not to seek clan participation, at least make sure you join a squad when you connect to a server. :)

USI is more like a family than a "clan"

In USI, I have played with the same friends for almost 4 years now. We use Ventrilo , so I talk regularly with people from all over the country and the world. In some cases we "just know" what the other guy is doing and can react accordingly.

I can tell you I have more fun in BF2 because of it.

We have begun to build good relationships with other groups in BF2 land, and that just increases our enjoyment, as those games are more organized, more challenging, and less frustrating with teamkillers.

We're the exact same here. [STK] has become more of a social family than a clan, even though we've warred various games over 400 times. Most of the guys I play with are people who I've been around for years now. I've managed to meet several of our crew in RL. Now that we've expanded into newer games we can have 10,20, up to 30 in TS playing a variety of games. We had a 5v5 CSS scrim last night, and 9 showed up for it. The one's that didn't play went off and played BF2 while the rest of us scrimmed.

Anyway, I'd say yes, no doubt. Plenty of guys have came to us with little skills, only to learn teamwork, tendancies, etc.. and end up being damn good players. And its not just for gaming, we've jumped on poker sites together, ISketch, etc... just having fun with your friends...

Like DD above, I'm older - 36. Our clan ranges in age from 18-40, and we probably have an avg age around 25 or so....

I wouldn't know any other way to play than being in TS with the clan.

Clans are a good way to go -- by joining a good one you learn comradery, tactics & teamwork skills.

One of the best things about being in a clan is communication -- squads that communicate effectively (especially using VOIP and using VOIP with the commander) will be the ones that dominate maps. Personally I belong to a small clan at a LAN gaming centre so what happens is when we get together we're able to communicate VERY EFFECTIVELY and can usually turn the tide on a map.

I was in a clan for CS, for AA, .... I use to like it, but now I don't want to be in a clan anymore, to many people getting in my MSN messenger or something else, chatting and stuff.

Alway things like, hey go play on that server, go play now and then, ....

I dicided for myself to play where I feel like and when I feel like, offcourse you can do this to when you are in a clan, but what is the point then?? if you don't play with them.

Why? sometimes the clan play a map you don't like so much, they play on a server wich has a bigger ping for you, ....


BUT, it isn't all bad, I know, when I was in some clans for differnet games, and you came online and start playing on a server, if there was another clan member on that server , and sometimes someone you know from chatting or something, it was realy fun to play and most of the time you stick up for eachother, feeling the true clan spirit can be real good sometimes

I would suggest a community over a clan like the guys said in the post here. You form a bond with people over the years and tend to stay together when switching games. Its all about the community that keeps alot of gamers playing.

As for clans, unless you choose to play competitive online games, I wouldn't join one. I ran a clan for 3 yrs in CS and it turned into a job. Worrying about who gets enough playing time in matches, this one said that one did this..blal bla bla. It becomes more of a meet the same time everynight and practice for the upcomming match instead of a get together when you can get on and play for fun.

Community > Clan anyday.

Sr uses Ventrillo and we are the only ones on it while playing and VSF has a teamspeak server for all if you want to jump in there. The nice thing is we all play as a team, not a bunch of knuckleheads and everyone is willing to help newer players as much as possiable. Good luck.

I used to be the top guy in a Rogue Spear clan in the UK called DTD. It was the most fun I had ever had, (until I discovered alcohol, drugs and women ) and yearn for those days again. There was nothing that would make me more proud than guiding my team to victory. In the end I had to give up due to the fact I was getting older, and going to college etc, plus the fact that everyone had broadband and I didn't gave them an ever so slight advantage over me.

Honestly, you have nothing to lose by joining a clan. Try it out, see what it has to offer, and if you don't enjoy it, you can always leave.

Broadband is arriving in a week or so, so look out BF2 world, I'm a comin :)

teams/clans are fun, as long as is stays light, and does not get too serious. it's great to jump on Vent/TS and have some fun with people you know. :)

Look at a clan this way :

Makes it much easier to find good teamplayers... and on top of that teamplayers you have played with before, so you know how eachother thinks...

its fun...

Clans are very different... some is VERY competitive, and some is in the other end only using VoIP for jokes while you play...

You should find one who fits you

it depends really. if you have real life mates you can play with who like bf2 as much as you do then i think thats probably preferable because a drawback with any clan is geting everyone togethe rtoo play at the same time especially if the people are in different countries.

Then if thats the case finding servers everyone gets a good ping on can be annoying.

But if you normally play on your own then yeah you'd enjoy it its great being on teamspeak with your mates covering each iothers backs etc etc :)

This may be a stupid question but how does one go about getting involved with a clan. Mostly I would be interested in playing with the same group of people so you have some assurance of how they play. Getting on any server is just pot luck to how people play and the frustration from a complete lack of teamwork.

Communities are the way to go. You can get intense, team-orientated teamplay without all the BS politics that a clan has.

Also, clans require money to keep going (unless you have rich founders), communities usually keep going on small donations.

Gaming with the same people is great becuase you learn about their styles, attitudes and sense of humor..like already stated, its hard to jump on a server where you know nobody and try to get some offensive thing going..Alot of people still rambo style it in this game, which will really only get you killed.anyone that wants to game it up in a relaxed environment, feel free to drop by our forums or catch me on xfire.name is plaguers.

I am one of the leaders of digital Anarchy... We have a ranked 32 man server that is always full...64.69.47.113:16569...Go to our website and youll have access to the server along with us. Along with teamwork and a cool community of gamers, I would say its a good thing...
