Bizarre Artillery......

ok another first for me and i just wanted to find out if anyone else has experience this anomaly...

last night -- playing on fushe pass
jumped on the server right when the game began so i went for commander (trying to drink a beer smoke a cigarette, didnt feel like running around) -- anyways, i see three or four guys at the northern flag -- so i send some arty their way -- this is the weird thing i clicked on the flag exactly in 2x zoom the arty sign lights up -- BUT HALF A MAP AWAY.... ???? tried this 4 more times -- same result every time? a glitch? a hack? anybody seen something like this before?

p.s. i've got 67 hours as commander and this was a first

Yes, it's a known bug from the earliest days of the beta release. I used to play a lot of commander back then, and it happened.

It happened as many times with the UAV though. It's quite frustrating, since you lose precious time, an asset for what seems like a long time, a CP and you look like a newbish commander for placing it so far away from the battle.

strange i havent seen this bug yet until over 60+ hours as commander... but yeah you're definitely right about "wasting precious assets" i had to quit because i couldnt get the job done... pretty big bug if you ask me -- good thing it doesnt happen that often

The same phenomenon happens on either Gulf of Oman or Dalian Plant, I believe. If a MEC commander tries to place artillery on the USS Essex, it usually ends up landing in the water.

has anyone tried this using mwheel vs. right click zoom? I'd be curious to see if that effects it....I've had it happen with the carrier before, one of those 2 maps...

I have tried the click zoom and mwheel zoom trying to get the carrier before, and it was like a forcefield over it - never could hit it right - even with map zoomed out.

I know it can be done because I have been artied while on it.

Just a glitch - not sure what makes it happen to some and not others.

I can confirm this. I just finished playing a match there. Heard the artillery, looked up saw the white trails of doom. I prepared to get toasted; instead however, I watched millions of fish die...

it doesn't matter what method you use to zoom. i've seen the thing happen with supply drops also. i always zoom before dropping arty and supply drops and quite a few times, i try to drop supplies in a specific spot and for some reason you never see the crate with the chute (this happened before 1.03). before 1.03 when this happened, i had no idea where my supplies had dropped. i haven't seen yet in 1.03, if it does happen, it should be easy to detect though with the icon.

Yeah def happend as MEC commander on Oman dopping on the USS Essex....I find if you drop it waaaaaaaay over towards the shore you will nail the carrier...such a pain though

happened to me the other day, i simply restarted my game and everything was ok.

I figured out on Gulf, that if you want to hit the carrier, you have to aim just to the left of the boat, and then they hit the deck. I figured it was an offset thing because of all the water between it and the land.

But, I have started seeing where if you click for arty in one spot while zoomed out, it randomly moves the final target zone around about 100m in the game world. If I zoom in at all and then choose a target, it seems to be centered right where I clicked.

hmmmm

The arty always drops a little long, more so the farther the target is from the arty. You need to figure out where the guns are in relation to the target so you can make the adjustment. That is why on Oman you have to put the crosshair short of the carrier to hit the deck. (I think it has to do with the angle of the shots, but that is just a guess as elevation of the target does not seem to matter.)

And always remember to drop a supply crate (if you have one to spare) under the arty so the enemy will come out of their hiding spots for you.
