Does any one use this tool? If so, how do you connect to another server?

I've tried a variety of ports but nothing seems to work. I think this would be a beneficial tool for working out strats etc but I can't figure out how to connect to someone else's ATCBF2 server. The help files aren't particularly helpful. One would think they would use a default port (3333) that should work for most people but it doesn't. So if you use this program and have succesfully connected to another server, can you fill me in on what it takes. If it's posted somewhere here, please provide a link. I tried a search but either came up with nothing or lot's of pages that appear to have nothing to do with this program. (too many to go through)

All you have to do is enter the IP.

My external IP, I don't have a router so it's not some sort of internal IP. I've tried everything I can think of but I can't get anyone in my clan to connect to my server whether it's dedicated or not and I can't connect to theirs. I tried playing with the ports and still nothing. I gather that you have no problems with it then?

So there are people that can't connect to your ATC yet can connect to your BF2 server no problem?

typically when you are trying to connect to a local server, you do not need to connect to your external ip. if the internal ip works (mine is 192.168.2.145 for example), but the external doesn't, you will need to forwards ports onto your ip address. To check if that is the problem, set your ip as part of the dmz in your router. this will allow all traffic, and if it is a problem with your router blocking something, this will show it.

You're setting up (or trying to connect to) an ATC server, correct, and not just a normal BF2 server?

It is a pretty helpful tool when planning out strategies with a group of people on teamspeak or something. It's good for initially assigning squads, but after a game starts any thing more detailed is pretty much worthless. No plan survives initial contact with the enemy :)

No kidding, but it is a good tool to try to stratagies a plan of attack, or showing good firing positions.

Exactly. It's supposed to be great for coming up with stratagies for the various maps and map sizes. Draw arrows, place squads and individuals, place equipment like APC's, humvs etc in real time as well as counter proposals by who ever is connected to the server. You can do it off line and save a file but then there is the hassle of sending files, knowing what's changed from the original idea blah blah... real time is the way to go.

Umm sort of.
People can not connect to my local or decidicated ATC server and I can not connect to their local or decicated ATC.
I do not have a local or dedicated BF2 server.

Correct. I have no issues connecting to a BF2 server and I do not host any BF2 servers.

Yes a plan is only good until it is first implimented and then the rest is flying by the seat of your pants, so to speak. Having said that, an effective initial deployment can make the difference of winning or losing a game.

It's worked from the start for me. The community I play with has an ATC "link" on their webpage that includes the password and all.. so I just click the link, ATC fires up, and I'm on the server. Their ATC servers run on the same physical server as the BF2 server. Haven't heard anyone complain about not being able to connect to it either..

You don't have a firewall that is blocking the ports.. default Windows fireall or something? Sorry, not sure where else to look

Works best if you have a group of folks that plan on playing together.. like an entire team, or the squad leaders from the team. You all gather on the ATC server and teamspeak (though ATC does have text chat) and go over your plans before the game. I don't think using it in the middle of the game would be very effective.

The way we use it is to have a session before a scrimmage with as many people as possible. The commander will go over what flags he wants to take, where he wants each squad to spawn, what vehicles are assigned to each squad (1 take the chopper and go after this flag, 2 gets the vodnik and tank and goes here, etc), etc. Getting a good start out of the gates is important. We'll go through each flag and go over good lookout spots and such. Pretty neat.

You can download the program and try it out in offline mode without a server if you want. Our commanders will make up their tactics offline, post them in our tactics forums, then we'll go over them in ATC with everyone giving input and learning the plan.
