What causes this video problem?

This is all because of my Audigy 2ZS. If I uninstall it and the drivers, I don't have a problem. If I used Hardware with or without EAX enabled and Sofware with EAX enable this happens. Well I disabled EAX and now this is starting to happen all the time. I'll take another SS in a bit.

What are your specifications? Seems to be either a driver problem or overheating.

seems like you are running on too high graphics...

Happens on both low, medium and high settings. Happens with both ATI and Omega drivers.

Wow, I've never seen that on bf2, though it did on Far Cry. Are you sure your graphics card isn't overheating or anything?

My mates got the same/similar prob.
Hes got an ATI X600.
He has plenty of dark patches like yours, i told him i thought it was overheating.

I have this problem too, I have a GeForce 5900 128, and it happened a LOT while I was flying, but sometimes on the ground. Thought it might have been a driver issue, and since I hadn't reinstalled Windows in a year or so, I took the plunge.

Well, it happened again, but it actually restarted my PC this time after some odd graphical stuff. I think its either a bum card or it overheating. I saw in the display properties to turn on an audible alert if it overheats. I will see how that goes.

Funny, I don't have problems in World of Warcraft or any other games I play, only BF2. Then again, I think BF2 is the most graphic intensive of them.

On a side note, and I will publish a seperate post for this, but what would be a good video card to get? My 5900 was great, gave good performance, but I think I am just going to replace after looking at the fan/heatsink on it.

I am thinking of about 200-250 to spend on it, and needs to be AGP. I am more of a fan of NVIDIA than ATI, I have had too many driver problems with ATI cards to feel comfortable with them, though maybe its time for a change.

I had this problem afew times, all it was for me was vidio drivers I updated them and all was fine, if it was a overheat problem there would be alot more messed up graphics not just black patches, the black patches is more likly to be a texture issue not a overheating problem.

Update or roll back drivers to different versions.

When my game would mess up, the game would slow down drastically so I could not type, and took over a minute to pull up the menu.

I will try rolling back the drivers to a older version as well

Also check you graphics apeture size in bios, mine was default 128, I set it to 256 and the slow menus and stuttering disapeared.

Finally someone with the same problem I had! My specs are nvidia 5900 256 from albatron, AMD642800 newcastle I believe, 1.5gigram, air cooling and a sh*tpot load of fans. I thought the same thing and was told the same thing by several people and ea that it was a heat and driver problem.BUZZZZZZZZZ wrong answer, I dont know what it is but I do know that if you delete the shader cache for all you profiles and use only one profile it goes away. Give it a shot and let me know how it turns out

I did get the problem to go away when I deleted the cache files, but it comes back eventually. Mainly the next time I restart BF2. I'm 99% positive it's not overheating. According to ATITool, the max temp is 34C under load. I have it write down the temps in a log and it's never seen over 35C even with an O/C. I have no drivers to roll back to because this is on a fresh install from last Friday. I reinstalled because of this problem. I tried to play earlier and get the same results but it didn't happen in 30 minutes that I was playing. If I have time tonight, I'll jump in the game to see if I can get it to repeat itself which I'm sure it will. Just wait until you see what else happens.
