It wasn't a very good change as now it is asking for a disk to be inserted.
The CACHE folder contains the information collected when the game goes throught the optimization process, that occours everytime you change video settings in BF2.

Deleting the folders inside the CACHE folder will only force the game to optimize even if you didn't change anything and also removes the optimizations that currently are not in use.

      Re: Black Screen Problem!

I'm starting to get a little ****ed off here, I bought the game last night. I installed it, restarted the pc and then tried to launch the game. The BF2 logo runs then the screen turns black, flickers, goes dark black then back to a "game running black" flickers and back to desktop all in 4 seconds time. I tried running the game 10 times in a row and nothing worked. So I restarted PC still not working. Downloaded the newest graphic card drivers, still not going to work. Downloaded the V 1.03 patch, restarted, still doing the same black screen thing.

\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ - Does not work because there is no "Cache" folder.

If I go to My Documents I get \My Documents\Battlefield 2\(a choice of dmp or profiles)If I go to My programs My Programs\Battlefield 2\Mods\Bf2 (thats as far as I can go) I'm not seeing the cache folder..

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here, I feel like EA just stole $50 from me.

The CACHE folder isn't on your system because you haven't been in the game yet and run through the optimizations process. It will do this on first load of a map if you changed settings.

Take a look in your ...\DMP\patchlog.txt and see if the game was patched properly. It will list the files that was patched or skipped.

Many ppl have been using ***** that alter the bf2.exe and core.dll files and thus when updating these files aren't updated if they were changed by such means. This will mean the game will not load, because patch didn't update these files.

I'm assuming you haven't created an account in the game yet, right??

Did you let the installation install DX9.0c when it asked to, even if you have it installed??

Gunny Highway, Any suggestion on what we do then? If not I wont get mad.
I also noticed you said the following:

I havent been able to get onto the menu yet, nevermind, a map, but I still have hadthe cache folder in the directory stated. Is this because I've misunderstood, or maybe because I have the demo and not the full?

Can I just remind you that I think the problem maybe the missing system.dll file out of directx, which im not sure how to recover.

Also I think it maybe because of one of the following:
            • DDraw Status: Not Available
            • D3D Status: Not Available
            • AGP Status: Not Available

And if I find a solution Ill be sure to tell you, Blackbird1

This applies for both stuartg123 and Blackbird1:

You could try unistalling and reinstalling video drivers, but doing it in a manner that makes sure you only have one driver set installed in Windows.

Look in this post how to clean drivers with drivercleaner etc:

              @stuartg123
It could also be the fact that your PC's specs aren't up to requirements for running the game, the 9200 isn't listed as one of the cards in the readme.txt or in the manual, searching for 9200 on forum will probably find more post if that was the case.

              @Blackbird1
Your patchlog looks fine no issues there. What is your PC's specs??

Didn't see this addition to your post as I was writing a reply

This is a good indication that either your chipset drivers or video drivers aren't installed properly, try doing the above as suggested with video drivers first.

                What driver are you using??

                  Re: Black Screen Problem!

Well I am quite sure that my card is up to requirements as my friend has an ATI Radeon 9200 AGP, where as I have an ATI Radeon 9200 SE AGP. My friend can run the game perfectly even though his card is not on the specs list. I will post my specs from my dxdiag to see if there is anything else that could be a problem:

Other than that I meet system minimum requirements

                            512 RAM
AMD Athlon XP 3200 + 2.2 ghz processor
                            160 g hard drive
                            Dirext x 9.0
There's your problem GF4 cards aren't supported. You need a gfx card with shader model 1.4 and 128 MB VIDEO RAM at least.

                              *Sigh*

I hate the people at best buy.... "Oh for sure it will work..."

I showed them the exact PC I bought and the game requirements, I asked if it would work and they said there'd be no problem at all...

Would you recomend a good Graphic Card that won't be out dated in a year?

I play on Scandinavian servers, and you being Canadian would probably diminish the chances of us playing on the same server
