Noob question

Hi all sorry for asking a noob question (I did search but maybe i cant see the wood for the trees) but how do you change your in game display name?

I dont use game spy or any other third part software for BF2 , I just directly connect to servers while in BF2. I have tried the localprofile.setnick command and I cant get that to work, all help is greatly appreciated

Ok.. go to the directory C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USERNAME\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

Open the file "Profile", then change the names there to what you want.

*NOTE* This may cause errors in the game, if so, change it back. :)

EA/DICE did not make a way to change your in game name eccpt add a 6 charecter prefix in the front of your name, the only way u can change your name is to make a new account. sry but its the truth.

Quoted for truth.
When you make a new account and it asks for an email addy just chuck anything in as it does not have to be a real addy. Thats if you dont have a secondary email addy.

If you are patched to 1.03 then when you log in you have an extra box to add your prefix. Just type away.

When you first log in the game - at the top right of the window where you type in your password - there is a box for you to type in your prefix.

in game it will show prefix yourname - not prefixyourname

you do not have to worry about taking 2 of your 6 chars to put [] around your clan id, or whatever you want.

also - be aware - once you put it in one time, it will stay that way until you change it again. you just need to type it in once, then nex time you log in you do not have to. it will not show it in the login box, but once you get back in game it will be there still. you can still change it by typing something new in there, but your most recent one will be the one that shows up when you put nothing in the box.
