Yea, they do. When I'm commander I'm usually Engineer since on one fixes anything. I never play Engineer anyother time bacause the shot guns don't seem worth while to me. But about a week after I got the game and when I was commander, I got awarded the Basic Engineer Badge whilst arty'in.

Does that count for helicopters and airplanes cause i just can't get that ribbons. I know it is a bit cheap but i just want to have those

What the patch fixed was a commander bug where you were holding a knife when you used arty, killed 5 enemies and were awarded 5 knifekills. Depending on what you were holding, the arty kills were counted towards that total.

It isn't possible to get a AA badge by being commander unless you're actually manning an AA unit.
