Hey everyone. As you can see, I'm a 100% Noob here at the forums. At least when is comes to posting, I've been watching this forum for a while now and have come to like it alot.
Anyhow, I think I may have figured a (temporary?) fix for the lagging issues in the game. Here's what I did.
1.) I totally uninstalled BF2. At the end of the uninstall, it asks you if you want to delete the profile directory and 2 other options that I can't remember what they are. Make sure you choose to delete all three.
2.) I re-downloaded Patch 1.03.
3.) Rebooted my PC.
4.) Installed BF2 from the disks and rebooted my PC again afterwards.
5.) Installed Patch 1.03. You do not need to download 1.02 anymore as the newest patch overwrites it anyway. Then reboot your PC again. (I also think that the reason for the lag is because the 2 Patches are conflicting with each other. There might be some older files that 1.02 had, that 1.03 didn't update. But thats just my opinion.)
6.) Download PBWEB and update PunkBuster. Reboot again.
7.) Start playing the game, retrieve your account and adjust your video settings. Depending on how fast or slow your computer is, I would reboot the PC again after the settings are in place. Just as a precaution.
8.) Start playing the game. Since it is a fresh install, the game might lock up for a few seconds at times during the first 5 minutes of play. That is only because the computer is adjusting to the high demand of the game.
This solution has worked for me. I played 5 rounds at 5 different maps at 1:30AM even though I had to be to work at 7:00AM (hehehe), and experienced no lag. I closed the game all the way down between rounds also.
I understand that this is a tedious process. It took me a total of an hour and a half to do everything. I apologize in advance to anyone who tries this (possible?) solution and is still lagging. Like I said though, this has worked for me, and I've experienced just horrible lags and lock-ups.
Thanks everyone, and I hope it works for you!
