    A spec ops guide (basic)

Here's my guide (basic) for being a Spec Op soldier. (A.K.A Special Forces)

Your weapons are your advantage! Use them wisely, ammo is short and quickly used!

    M4/G36C (including MEC Equivalent)
This is your #1 weapon against infantry. Use the scop well, the laser dot in the middle is a very good aim. Your ammo will run out quickly in full fire mode, to get full advantage of your weapon use single shots (press 3).

Most people fire at will without any recognition. This is not the way to go. If you see a group of infantry, use the scope in the prone position. While you are laying down you get better aim, and less recoil. The laser guide is very accurate, and can hit targets from long distances when used. Don't underestimate this little gun, in automatic mode it fires a lot of rounds very quickly, you can kill infantry extremely quickly with a short burst.

    C4 Explosives

This is the epiphamy of your kit. It can be used to defend and attack. Never underestimate your C4!

C4 is your god. As a spec op, you can sneak without being seen very well. Your C4 can be used as a variety of measures.

    Defense
Place C4 at your flag, and then get hiding. As soon as you see the flag go grey, you know its time to detonate. 2 or 3 C4 charges placed well can create a huge bang, killing 8 men if their close together. By using C4 at your flag, you get kill points and defense points, very valuable for progressing through the ranks.

You can also use C4 at the entrance to a base. Place it along the floor, then go to a stationary gun, preferably in a tower. As soon as a vehicle is coming, unmount from the gun, and grab your detonator. 5 C4 charges on the floor will detroy any vehicle, big or small. Extrememly effective against incoming AA or Tank threats, and keeping your base enemy vehicle free.

    Attack
C4 can be attached to almost anything. If a tank is attacking your flag, 2 C4 charges will blow it to bits. All you need to do is get behind the turret, most drivers wont use the external camera. You can also go prone and place it underneat the tank. After doing this, get out, run, and detonate. You get kill and defense points.

Spec Ops are also the prime for destroying the enemys "Useful Resources". 2 C4s on a Radar, UAV Hut, or artillery barrage will destroy it. When destroying these, you get Useful Resources destruction points, which rack up big.

If you are in an enemy base, and you see an unmanned plane or heli with no-one near, go and place 2 C4 on it. Go and lie in wait, Helis and Planes are the most desired vehicles in most cases, and non-attack helis can have upto 7 soldiers in. Wait till the heli is a reasonable height over the base, then detonate. You can get upto 7 kill points, and possibly get a couple more if the wreck hits soldiers on the way down.

    Pistol
Most people underestimate pistols. As a Spec Op, you can sneak well. Your pistol has a silencer attached, if you shoot at someone, they won't hear a thing. Use your pistol to your advantage, too. If an enemy fires at you, and they reload, use your pistol. Theres nothing worse than needing a reload just when he's beggining to fire, an almost certain way to die. By using your pistol, you also get the Basic Pistol and such medals, all counting towards your nextr rank up.

    Grenades
Grenades are your friend. They can take out 3 to 4 men in one go, and can destroy smoking armor.

    Knife
If you see an enemy on his own, your knife may be the way to go. Go prone and sneak up to him, then aim for the head. Usually it will eb a one stab kill, completely silent.

Well I hope you like it, if you have any suggestions just post and I'll gladly add them in. :)

Nice guide but there's one thing that I feel is important that should be added

Spec Ops are also important for shutting down armor columns because they are the only class that can destroy bridges. Honestly I don't think many pub players are aware that these can be destroyed.

I think in the advanced guide you should mention the arts of BH ghetto bombing and the all favourite jihad buggy =)

P.S. A knife hit anywhere on the body is an instant kill

Also the C4 on jumps, then DPVs into enemy heli. :p

Yeah, I'll add the bridge thing now. Completely slipped my mind, thats one of my favourite things to do. :)

one onther use i saw the other night while playing is while riding around in the chopper was a spec ops throwing the c4 charges down in to enemy cp areas
if u have a support with u it is an awesome carpet bomb and clears out defenders pretty damn quick

Thanks for the guide. Spec Ops is my favorite character class in BF2 since they're quite versatile and can prove to be a valuable asset in winning matches.

One thing to add is that they also have superior stamina when it comes to running long distances. A spec ops player can pretty much outrun every other soldier out there, with probably only the medic as an exception. However, they're pretty weak in the armor area so guerrilla-style hit-and-run tactics are the best approach when using this class. I can't tell you how many times running away while dodging fire from a tank has saved my a$$ (right after I've plastered it's rear with a few C4's, heh heh).

              That's what ghetto bombing is.

Nice thread. How many C4 charges does it take to take out a bridge? All 5?

Depends on the size of the bridge

On a small to medium-sized bridge 3 charges will make the bridge unpassable (leave a big gap in the middle)

On some of the larger bridges though (2 vehicle traffic) 3 will take out a chunk of one of the sides (so you'd have to do this twice then -- might be doable with 5 charges if placed properly)

Spec Ops is my favorite kit by far. I find the rifle to be the best in game -- it may not be the strongest, but I rarely lose a mid-range firefight because it's so accurate. The other guys' rounds are zipping around me and I just take aim and click 2-3 times -- dead.

C4 is awesome. It can pretty much shut an assault down, guard a flag, roadside bomb. I love to booby trap vehicles and aircraft -- just wait until they get off the ground and you know they're getting all excited about their little flying toy and BAM. Give 'em a bad hair day.
