Knife badge

Again another question about the knife badge.
If you got over a 100 kills with your knife and don't have the vet. badge yet, can you still get it?
Or must I go on for the 18 kills for the expert badge cause I will not get the vet. badge with 7 kills????

It should give you the vet badge first then the expert, or sometimes it will give them to you at the same time, like what happened with my roommate.
