Framerate problems

Ok, I'm thinking my troubles are coming from my video card, which is an nVidia FX5700LE 256mb GPU. I have 1.5G of RAM and a 3GHz P4.

With that, I still get frame rates of no more than 40, absolute max. Most of the time, especially when explosions are happening, it slows down to 15fps. I have most things on medium except lighting, dynamic lighting, shadows, all the stuff that is a real drain on the system.

I have cleared the cache and I close down all the programs running in the background before I play. Do I need to upgrade my video card?

Tell me ifyou need more info about my, "1337 b0x."

You'd be correct in assuming it is your video card.

6600GT or 6800GT would be a nice upgrade depending upon what you're looking to spend.

haha, cant afford it at the moment.

I just needed to know that it was a problem that couldn't be avoided, I thought maybe something was wrong with my video card.

Turns out it just sucks.

Try fooling with your settings. Dynamic lights and shadows take up the most. Then turn off AA/AF (AF is called "Texture Filtering" in-game). Turn everything else to low/medium, see if that helps any.

Your video card just sucks, sorry. You are lucky to get 40 FPS with everything on medium..

Put dynamic stuff off and youll be getting better framerates. Dont expect too much with a 5700LE, its a low end card now. And i agree with nitemare, youre lucky that you're getting 40fps with that graphics card =). AA should definately be off. Effects should be on low if you're experiencing major slowdown during an artillery strike.

Certainly turn all lighing, shadows, and aa, off.

Why don't you start with everything off and low then do the following.

Then enter the game and do the following.

type ` <-- the character left of the 1 on your kb brings up the console.

Type

renederer.drawFps 1 <-- I believe this is the correct command if not you can find it online.

If it works correctly you should be seeing red numbers in the top left.

65.0/15.3 <-- something like that the 65.0 is your frame rate fps.

Play a round or two, if it's higher than 60 most of the time your playing try upping a few of the settings in your video options.

Anything less than a 45 average will become choppy when you need it most, IMHO.

With my 9800 pro I like to see my frame rates in the high 50's low 60's the majority of the time. I'm getting that with 2G of memory and most of the settings on medium or high, no aa.
