Attack chopper envy/jealousy? (long rant :)

Few days ago, I came across the best attack chopper gunner I've ever seen. Simply amazing guy, with lots of skills and brain (to know what to hit first, when to hit it, etc).

In our first run (USMC on Gulf of Oman), I had outbursts of hysterical laughs as I was watching him guide TV missiles and hit everything (missed maybe 1 in 10). We completely halted MEC armor and choppers, and our team won the game easily. He had highest score, but we simply didn't care about score - it was amazing fun, and we helped team a lot (if teammates advance towards a flag, we provide cover for them and "clean" the flag from vehicles/infantry as much as we can, etc). It came to the point where MEC choppers were not taking off anymore, and MECs would jump out of vehicles when they saw chopper aligned in their direction (that was hilarious, I couldn't stop laughing). He was 1st (had 130+ points, 50+ kills), I was 3rd. But I couldn't care less. I had so much fun flying, I didn't think about points.

Next round comes - 5-6 people gather on helipad. And they wouldn't let us have the chopper ("Why would you have the chopper all the time?" reasoning). They probably assumed no skill is involved in doing what we did, so they repeatedly died and we lost the round. Not a big deal.

Yesterday, we manage to get together on Wake Island map, and we get into chopper. Similar story again, he hits just about everything (missed planes for meter or two, few times, damnit ), and as our USMC teammates advance towards flags, we go above them and "clear" the terrain in front of them.

And in next round? People gathered on the helipad, and wouldn't let two of us get the chopper. One idiot even TKed us and got kicked from the server (he TKed us 4 times). Another guy got into chopper, and circled above a carrier for a minute, then he landed on the carrier deck. And he wouldn't move, nor fly, nor fight. Whole point was not to let us two get into the chopper. As if we were not in the same team.

Are people f*cking jealous when someone plays better or what!?!?

When I see a chopper doing fine job, I never even think of trying to get it next time it spawns. I sometimes get into chopper as pilot, and I see 2 guys (with same clantag, for example) running towards me. I assume they have teamspeak or something, so I leave the chopper and let them have it. And usually they do better job than me flying alone or with random gunner (who shoots at tanks with gun, heh).

Sometimes I see good pilot/gunner pair get shot down, and someone else takes the chopper on next spawn. These guys give up and go fighting, and I take the chopper next time it spawns, and find those 2 guys to give them chopper. I simply want SUPPORT from the chopper (and I play AT most of the time, so I really appreciate chopper support against vehicles), so I'd give it to pilot/gunner pair any time of the day. Like when I spot APC/tank on our CP, and 10 seconds later chopper arrives and takes them out. I'd never try to take the choper from those guys.

But why people take choppers from pilot/gunner pair which is proven in the combat, and which helps the team?

Did you ever get out of the chopper, so that some other guy(s) can have it?

Is it possible that greed (for points) is THAT f*cking big?! Don't people play for fun?

    Sad

p.s: oh yes, I know noone cares, nor do people who take choppers read these forums, but this kind of makes me feel better

my girlfriend and i are a very very good team. we get on average 70+ each per round when we have the chopper to ourselves.

i am not saying we are the best, but we get the job done. when there are a lot of people not letting us get it, we either wait it out, cause they die quickly, or i take the proactive approach to helping our team: i keep them from ruining our helicoptor, aka tk. i don't feel bad. i know i can fly better then they can.

btw, find us on a server:

I am convinced there are people who play online games for the sole purpose of making it miserable for others. They are not having fun unless they are upsetting others by doing the kind of tactic you've described.

oh, and you're wrong in that there are many on these forums who have admitted/bragged to the fact that they will tk or mess with you if you touch "their" chopper.

rhohan, I hope Im never in a server with you. Yes, you may be a great pilot/gunner team with your g/f, but to me TK'ing for anything is crap. Everyone bought this game with their hard earned money, and everyone deserves time in whatever vehicle they want. How are you to improve your online gaming without actually doing it?

I would never TK anyone on purpose. Even when they sit there and look into my face and we stare each other down before he pulls the trigger. If it is intentional, I will punish, but I am definately not a punish whore!

As far as vehicles, if I see a team running for a vehicle, I will let them have it. This is on the assumption that they are on teamspeak or something and have some sort of strategy. If it is just me and one other guy, I will get in the chopper with him, but if it is a fighter then I look at his rank. If he has a higher rank than me, I will let him have it. Reason being is usually the higher the rank, the more time spent in game and he should have more experience and be a better pilot.

        End rant.

Just enjoy those good chopper rounds you DO get.

You don't have to get the chopper every round.

My friends and I always try and get together in the attack chopper if we can...it we can..GREAT. If we can't..oh well. If we see the attack chopper doing a TERRIBLE job..we head to the helipad and see if they'll let us take it next spawn. Usually bad chopper pilots give up and let somebody else fly who is actually going to make a difference to the team.

Occasionally...you get a jerkass on your team. Either he's a teammate jealous of your scores and simply wants to deprive you of your fun. OR...he's somebody from the other team you were owning who teamswitched and is looking to get his own back on you by taking 'your' chopper. In either case...let it slide. Play the round in another vehicle or on foot, or leave the server.

man, I gota run, but would love to carry on over this topic....

Usually I'm in TS with 4-8 guys, and generally myself (pilot) and someone else in TS try to work the chopper....we feel as a team in communication with each other, we're hella better than having some random gunner fire at a jeep while the cobra TV's us I don't TK for it though, and yes, after a great round you will usually find 5x as many people waiting for the helo.....

I have had great rounds with random pilots/gunners, and if the person sticks around, we'll usually try to get them in our squad - then at least a couple of us can talk to them via VoIP...

There's a balance here, between letting everyone experience the game vs. putting the best players in the best positions to win -- pub or not it still has a winner at the end of the map :P

I'll sometimes try to tell a random co-pilot that jumps in before my squaddie: 'We're on TeamSpeak...let my squaddie in the chopper'. But that rarely seems to work. I just fly off with him and try him out. If he's great, we'll keep going. If he sucks, I'll go on as a ground pounder and leave the chopper to him to stink up the place

Rarely do people realize that voice communication makes the attack helos MUCH more deadly weapons than they already are.

Re: Attack chopper envy/jealousy? (long rant :)

agreed, anyone that TKs to get a vehicle in the belief that they are better and so are helping their team is a complete and utter pillock.

I myself can fly a chopper ok, but I would say I am a good gunner, still perfecting the TV missile shots but I know what to do and speak to the pilot wherever possible (for example some pilots prefer you not to use the gun on enemy choppers until they have lined you up for a TV missile shot or their missiles - so the enemy is not alerted, but many pilots are not that savvy yet)

I was on a server with VOIP with a good pilot, we consisitently pwned the map for a round, both with over 100 points etc

the next round we got the shopper initially, but then a couple of peeps got it who, frankly, were not very good.

What did we do? Did we moan about it? did we TK? did we hang around on our arses till the chopper respawned?

No, the other guy who had been pilot said over VOIP "well, we have had the chopper to ourselves for a while, let's leave them to their fun" and so we did.

We went on to pwn the map as a 2 man squad that quickly became a fully manned squad since we were using VOIP, coordinating with the commander and basically we ended the map in the top 2 places AGAIN - without having used the chopper more than a few minutes.

Hopefully many of the kiddies will **** off now that the game has been out a while, and so more mature play will take over (which I think it is already a bit)

Note: Off-topic rant - the AA needs improving, 1.03 made it worse.

How did I improve my online gaming, as pilot - for example?

I went to empty servers (or those with 2-3-4 players, who were doing the same as me), and practised flying. Learnt where AA sites are, learnt where I can pass without getting damaged, how low I can fly, how to make 180 degree turn as quickly as possible, how to get into hover from full speed, etc. I never did it on 64/64 server, because I didn't want to ruin the game for others.

I have nothing against others taking chopper, but I expect them to be up to the job. I am just pis*ed off when idiots repeatedly take chopper and keep crashing or getting killed within a minute.

According to you, we have same rights (since we all paid for game), so I also have the right to NOT have my game ruined by such players. Why is ANYONE's right to be in a choper higher? It is not. It is just the common logic that should say "Ok, I can't pilot, I maybe better take a tank!". But nope, people will keep on jumping into chopper, and often for the sole purpose to p*ss someone else off...

I've described only 2 cases from the past 2 days, but I've experienced this "you won't get chopper this round, let me take it and crash randomly" attitude countless times. Always after me and gunner performed good in a chopper.

The only worse thing than guys taking chopper for no reason are guys who take attack chopper, just to fly off to some remote point and eject. Heh, fast and efficient transport

So, I have a tissue, will get some cheese - what else I'm missing?

                          meh, i suppose i a moron then.

i look at it very simply. my team needs air support to win. i can give that. douchebag over here can't. he will simply kill it 20 seconds after getting it. so do i

                          a) sacrifice the team by not giving my good air support
                          b) sacrifice my fun in the process, cause my "hard earned" money doesn't go to losing all day.
                          c) sacrifice my fun, and lose, so some douche can have a good time.

                          i am a **** i suppose.

edit: and to be fair to me, i do not tk unless tk'd. which happens. in fact, you can find me trading with others for the chopper. but i dont' hesitate to tk if someone is being a douche.
