very simple, go to your options menu in bf2, click controls, then aircraft or heli, and click the button you wish to assign. Say, you wish to asign your machine gun, click the open slot by Fire and press the button on the joystick that you wish to use to fire. for steering, simply click move forward, and tilt the joystick forward until it registers. same with throttle. if you need more help or more speific examples lemme know

np man, there are more advanced options available, for instance i have a button called my Stinger Alert, basically when hit it types the message "AA alert my position easy snipe anyone???"
mainly useful on wake island bc within seconds hes dead and i dont have to listen to him whine about me bombing him, my teamtes sniped his head off lol.
but yeah i use stick for chopper too, not really too much to program with chopper, and honestly is just what your comfortable with. play with it, if it feels good stick with it.
oh, hovering, practice, then when your done practicing, go practice. gonna take a while to get use to it, but once you get it, its a thing of beauty.
