Please ensure Battlefield 2 Install Disc is in the drive, select OK and restart.....

Well I bought the DVD version, install runs fine.
But when I go to play it I get that stupid error.
Ive tried many things to get it working, reinstalled, different patch versions...
It cant be a problem with the DVD as i've installed it on my laptop and it can run it without error.

    Any ideas?

Have you installed the latest firmware for your DVD-drive??

Also having latest chipset drivers won't hurt.

There is a similar Q&A at EA support:

where it links to som CD/DVD troubleshooting tips, maybe it can give some more help or pointers.

Yeah i looked on EA tech support first, tried ending all background processes that aren't essential.
Must have missed the firmware part, will try that now

Did you go through all the other steps in the list , e.g. disabling Virtual Drive/Emulation software??

If your DVD drive is old it may not be able to handle the copy protection scheme EA employed on the disc. My advice would be to use either Alcohol 120% or some other disc imaging tool (though I've had personal success with this piece of software in particular) and create an image and mount it to a virtual drive. I would, however, recommend you create the image from your laptop, since the game is clearly able to recognize the disc on that machine, then copy over the image file to your main machine and mount it to a virtual drive.

Alcohol 120% cannot support the newer versions of SAFEDISC. I recommend going for Daemon Tools. I personally have no troubles at all running a mini-image mountain on a virtual drive with Daemon Tools. Also, make sure you use a mini-image instead of a full image, which would just be a HUGE waste of space.

Also, you might have it installed it in a way where the game will only run if the disc is in the same drive that is used to install the game. If you installed from D:\, put the disc in D:\.

Ahem, I have no problems running BF2 with Alcohol120%.
Ofcourse I use a full discimage and not a mini-image.
