    Something fishy with the stingers.

This may happen on all maps, but I've really noticed it on Wake Island.

I sometimes go out to the USMC arty and blow it up. While I'm out there, I'll usually jump in the stinger site and harass the air traffic between the assault ship and the island.

Now here is what I repeatedly witnessed in a typical stinger attack.

    1. Initial lock, enemy drops flares.
    2. Reacquire lock, fire two stingers(while his flare dispenser is reloading).
    3. Stingers close on target.
    4. About 5 feet from target, stingers suddenly veer off course and completely miss the target?

WTF is up with that? It isn't flares, the guy isn't maneuvering to evade, nothing. The stingers just get right to the target and then suddenly veer off. In one attack, I saw them fly right up his exhaust and then one split right and the other split left and flew around the jet?

It seems to be all luck. No matter what you do it's a coin toss as to whether you hit or not.

I've always felt that if the guy isn't dropping flares or evading, it should be an automatic hit -- at least give us a 50/50 chance.

I'd still like to see the traditional AAA guns back in the game to complement the missles.

It happens to everyone, it all depends on luck..:|:

no i think its to do with range, ive had that many times you fire but in the time you fire they go out of range depsite the fact you can still see them, you will notice if you try too lock on too them as the rockets you fired go at them you can't get a lock and nither can the rockets.

It has nothing to do with range. I was hovering a helicopter on Wake Island trying to capture a point. I saw the guy running toward the AA and I turned to try and shoot him (granted, I am not that good at flying). He manages to get a lock on me and fire off a missile. It is coming STRAIGHT at me and, at the last second, veers straight down and misses me. If it hadn't turned at all, it would have hit me. . . but yet, it veered for no reason. I was thankful, but a bit perturbed.

It was either the hand of the BF2 god that saved me or a ridiculous bug in the game.

Considering I have seen other people fire at choppers and I have fired at them myself only to have the same thing happen, god would have to be a busy guy and love a lot of people to do this every time. I don't see how EA could have released this and called it "fixed."

They do turn a lot sharper since the patch, but the flare reload time for the attack helos seems to match the reload time of a stinger. It's quite annoying having a target drop flares everytime you lock. It's really a matter of guessing when to fire and hoping he won't drop flares after you do.

What i love is that when i shoot at intended target, it misses even if it doesnt flare and sitting still, then turns 90 degrees to hit teammate way across the map. Unbelievable! This happens almost all the time, i swear 90% of the time this happens. Also i get shot down even if i flare , anyone can hit me, i swear i have a different version then everyone else?

                      The AA is so awful...

I had one match where I fired 6 stingers at the MEC Flying Cow, and didn't hit it once! The server had battlerecorder turned on, so I got the replay and watched in slow motion. To my horror, 2 of the missiles turned slightly to miss at the last second, while 4 of them went straight through the chopper. The missile physically slammed into the side of the metal and came straight out the other side. What a load of rubbish.

I'm sure it's associated with the bad hit detection you sometimes get, e.g. firing an AT missile and it passes straight through the vehicle you're trying to blow up.

Also, there's the red name tag bug...which sounds like people's team property getting out of sync.

Interestingly, none of this happens offline in singleplayer.

It all points to dodgy netcode.
