    Memory Upgrade Question

My motherboard supports pc1600 and pc2100 DDR 184pin memory. Seeing as how most 2100 sticks run at only 266 Mhz, would it be worth it to upgrade my memory from 768 mb to 2 gig of this kind of memory or purchase a different motherboard that supports newer DDR2 memory that can run upwards of 600Mhz or so? Does the clockspeed of memory dramatically affect the performance of the memory sticks or is it negligible?

    Thanks for the imput.

    EDIT:
my system specs are as follows:
    P4 2.4 ghz processor
    768mb ddr
    Raedon x850xt
    120 gb 7200rpm hard drive
    16xdvd rom drive
    Super fast internet connection!

Thanks again for the quick responses and the help!:)

    Re: Memory Upgrade Question

Well here is the issue. Motherboards that support DDR2 most likely will not support your CPU or your graphics card.

If you give the rest of your specs, I can help you get on the right track. Also just for future reference, this should go into the "Hardware" forum (a subforum of Client Support). Just helps us keep things clean and organized :)

      Re: Memory Upgrade Question

      depending on lots of things.
      - wich CPU do you have? is important because not all CPU and certainly older ones can't handle 2 Gig very good, or you will have to use 2*1024Mb wich is more expensive, the older memory controlers of CPU aren't realy designed for 4*.... , intels are slightly better at that.

Also, very important, wich hard disc do you have? because if this is a very slow one, you will still have lag in BF and other programs because the HD can't transfer it's data fast enough to the RAM.

      give us more info man

        Re: Memory Upgrade Question

personally i wouldn't go DDR2 cause of the reason ^he mentioned and it's not very widely used and not mainstream enough. It will be overpoered by something very soon and you won't be able to upgrade as easily
