My memory is overclocked slighty (and fully superpi stable) and I did recently upgrade to 2GB (2x 1024GB) sticks.

Thanks for the great info to about the memory, is there a proper procedure you think I should try to get rid of the error? Maybe reapply the patch with only 1GB installed?

I reinstalled the patch and it works now.dont know if this is important but when i reinstalled it i forgot to uninstall the patch first so i guess it just put it all back the way it was to be.i really dont know but it is working now.

How do you know there is nothing wrong with your memory?

Some people have said the same thing only to run memtest and find errors. Once the card was changed the patch installed perfectly.

When you install the patch it copies the files in the patch to memory and compares them to the ones already on the drive. If it detects a difference between the two files then it won't patch the file and you get 'modified content' errors.

Ran memtest on my BF2 machine several times and no memory errors...so it's not a memory problem.

The error message means that when you installed the patch it didn't apply correctly. not all the files that were supposed to be patche were processed correctly which leaves you with a modified version somewhere between the basic version and the 1.03

If you open your patchlog.txt file in /my docs/BF2/dmp/ and see any lines that mention:

However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match.


it refers to a file that wasn't patched. In the case of the punkbuster files (pb folder) it doesn't seem to be too important. If it's the objects_client.zip file then you won't be able to conect to a server. if it's just a map file then you won't be able to play that map. etc...


This is the official EA reply to the error :




You need to manually uninstall the game.



To delete the save files:

Open My Documents.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):



Open My Computer.
Open the C drive.
Open the Program Files folder.
Open the EA GAMES folder.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Close all open windows.


To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:

Click on the Start button.
Click on Run.
Type regedit in the text field.
Click File and then choose Export.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
Click the plus sign next to DICE.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
Click the plus sign next to Windows.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
Right-click on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B} and choose Delete.

A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.
Battlefield 2 is now completely removed from your system.

2 members of this forum have managed to install the patch by running memtest and finding errors. They removed one of their 512Mb cards and reinstalled the patch. It worked fine so they put the 512Mb back in again and lived happily ever after :)

Ok..i've been playing just fine ever since i figured out how to get the 1.03 to work when it came out. THEN TODAY..JUST RANDOMLY TODAY...in the middle of a game it KYLLZ me. It gives me the unmodified content error. Anything that i can do b4 reinstalling? I already tried reinstalling PB.

Well I tried to just reinstall the patch and that didn't work. It's wierd how on some servers I have this problem and others I don't.

Looks like I am going to have to re-install...****in Dice.

Hm, lemme think. Why don't you uninstall, clear the BF2 registry entries, install, then apply the patch. That almost seems like a fail-safe method to me.

The following is the solution I came up with, posted on another thread. Reposting here, in case it helps anyone:

I completely wiped all the bf2 info off my hard drive. Reinstalling led to the dreaded 'unmodified content' error, which this thread has informed me was due to a lingering Objects_clients.zip even though it was deleted due to the uninstall.

Since the drive wasn't my primary - i.e., the one with XP installed on it - I was able to solve my problem by doing the following. I defragmented the drive, and checked to see how much space was free on it. I then created a RAM drive on that hard drive to the size of all the free space on it. I rebooted, ran a bunch of programs off my primary drive, basically anything to fill up that space. I then deleted the RAM drive and rebooted.

Next I took the biggest file I could find on my D drive, and copied it over and over onto the drive, till it was virtually out of space. I deleted all the copies, and defragmented again. Another reboot.

What all this did was write over any lingering deleted files that still 'haunted' my hard drive. I imagine only doing one or the other would suffice, but I wasn't taking any chances. I reinstalled the game, applied 1.03, and so far all has been well. Hope this helps someone.

I took out one of my 1GB sticks of RAM, reapplied the patch, stuck the 1GB stick back in and it fixed my problem, no errors when loading new maps.

Instead of doing this I just went into Add/Remove programs and unistalled BF2. After I did this I checked all of the things that were described above and they were gone including the reg keys. I then re-installed the game and the most recent patch. I playted for a couple of hours yesterday with no problems. I will report back after some more gameplay to let you all know if that resolved the problem.
