There is a problem with your connection-- HELP!!

I believe this is different than the connection lost problems that people have been experiencing. I get a "There is a problem with your connection" message every few minutes and the game will freeze up for a few seconds. I have tried every suggestion posted on forums, contacted EA tech support, etc. and all have been no help. Doesn't matter if I disconnect my router or not so I know it's not because of router settings. I have a broadband connection which I have tested and is working fine. I have played many on-line games including other "war" type games and this is the only one I have ever had problems with. I do hope somebody has a solution because this is a great game. I'm starting to think that EA just really doesn't care as their tech support seems to be useless and all the performance enhancements promised in patch 1.03 didn't happen.

Have you turned your firewall and anti-virus off?

I have exactly the same problem even with firewall and antivirus turned off.
I have a wireless router (firewall turned off on this too) attached to my modem as well and what I've noticed is that often when updating the server list or applying internet filters my connection to the internet is interupted this also happens when I use BF2AL and when this connection is interupted I get the problem with your connection error.
It must be the game as otherwise my connection is up 24/7 without any drop outs.

It doesn't matter if antivirus is turned off and the firewall is turned off. Same problems.

I used to have the same problem, most servers would show up in ASE with 60%+ packet loss, and I would only be able to play, at best, for about ten minutes before my connection would drop.

Turns out my firewall (nVidia, nForce4) wasn't setup to allow all those ports BF2 uses, so once I got that squared away I've been fraggin' away happily ever since.

I do still notice, however, that there are quite a number of servers out there with an aweful lot of packet loss, and high pings. My only guess is that they're on a network with very little throughput, or one that's saturated with bandwidth, or is running on a machine that doesn't have the resources to handle the configuration it's running. You just have to keep looking for a good server with a low ping, next to nil packet loss, good regular players, and good/fair admins. They're rare and hard to find, but they're out there...
