Server list pings, random lag spikes

No matter what, my server list pings in BF2 are always high (93+). They were like that in the demo, and in the retail version too. In Steam games like CSS or DOD:S I get pings as low as 25. It seems like the lowest pings I ever get are 93 in BF2... and its always the same too: just 93! (not sure why that number doesnt vary... but thats always my lowest number.).

I even get these pings after a fresh Windows xp install, latest drivers, etc. No spyware, no other programs taking up bandwidth.

These pings are playable... but I get lag spikes randomly too... Like maybe once every 30 minutes the ping will shoot up to 350 and slowly go down. I just think I should be getting lower pings than 93 though. I see people playing with pings 20 - 70. I would love to have a good ping like that.

The server list just seems buggy too. Like scrolling down, its just choppy and not smooth. And when you click on severs to see the players/server info, it takes forever sometimes.

I have a pretty nice computer too: amd athlon64 3200+, evga 7800gtx 256mb, 2gb corsair xms ram, 2x 74gb western digital raptors in raid0... and like i said, other games such as CSS and DOD:S, CZ, HL2DM...etc... all run smoothly and the server list gives me great pings on those games.

Anyways... can anyone else relate to this? Is this just a thing with the battlefield 2 server list (giving me high pings)? What might be causing these lag spikes? Once again, I never encounter lag/ping problems in other games. Are there any consol commands or tweaks I can apply? Any information would be great. Thanks.

i have the same problem i couldnt fix it so i went back to 1942 untill someone came up with a fix, i tried the cache thing it didnt work.

same problem... similary good rig... wtf is it with this game???
plus... when i update server list, it gets stuck at about 900, then adds 1 server per 10 seconds. then it gets going again upto about 1900 - same thing again.

and yeah.. i've been going back to tactical ops in relief of pain and agony. however, that's not the kinda game i just spent close to 2000 bucks on!

and, lol, just out of interest, are ther any moderators on this server????????????? i mean, like people who actually know something and are willing to help?

It's just a buggy server list menu. It gives too much data to handle, even on good machines. It makes the list scrolling choppy.... and the pings are inaccurate. EA needs to get a fix on this... fast

EA and fast don't belong in the same sentence unless it is refering to taking your money, because that they do pretty fast.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! :) Right on dude!

Seriously, these EA people,.... I don't think they've ever played a game before in their entire lifes! The patch just came out and they might aswell just get going on the next one, coz what the f*ck is it with that EA message? Why can't you sort the server list by ping or players?? And recently, I empty entire rounds into the heads of non-moving targets, and.... nothing! Not a single hit! I mean, like yesterday,.... this guy must have been afk or commander, was lying beside a building, unmoving. And I'm standing literally on him, aim at his head, and empty half my gun - nothing! Not one tiny little 'hit cross'!!??? So I do the, rest nothing. After reloading and moving about a bit I was finally succesful.... whoopie! Thank god the guy had been asleep or something^^

Just join a server and check your ping from there...I get pings sometomes of 2,500...join the server and end up with an ingame ping of 30!

Could you please download BF2 Autoloader and tell me if you get the same ping times in that as you do in the BF2 browser?

... ^ download doesnt work. You go to install it and it just sits there. Yes I have .net framework installed like it asks, with the latest updates and patches for it...
