What is wrong with my computer?

Ok, ever since i fixed my mobo problem (by replacing my msi mobo with an older nforce 4 winfast microatx mobo) and downloaded patch 1.03, i can't even play the frickin game. I put my settings to how i regularly put them last time i played BF2, and i put my overclock in my cpu and gpu to default, cause BF2 don't like oc, and i just don't oc my CPU. Anyways, what do i get, a CTD in the middle of loading on one of my accounts, and on my other account, when i just get into a server, after about 2-5 seconds, it makes a permanant lock-up (or as people call it the comp freezes), and i have to press the reset problem. WTH is wrong with my comp!!! All my stuff is above recommended requirements, but it still don't work. All the other games i have still work, but BF2 doesn't work. Is this because of the 1.03 patch, or is this older winfast micro atx mobo screwing me up. All comments that are not flames are greatly appreciated.

Since when does BF2 not like overclocks. Why don't you just tell the truth and say you don't have it overclocked because you don't know how to do it properly and screwed up your previous computer trying to?

I use Prime95 to test the stability of my system. Use the torture test and run the first 5 tests. It's under options -> Torture tests. If the test haults or fails then you got hardware issues. When I installed the patch I uninstalled BF2, cleared the cache folder, reinstalled the game then installed the patch. Did you switch motherboard without reinstalling windows?

Well, don't ask me, everybody who's pmed me about X800XL overclocking agrees that BF2 doens't like overclocks, at least with my card. All my other games i run at the overclock posted in sig. Plus, i've had this overclock for over 3 months, it always works on other games, but n BF2 it causes some occasional problems.

Ok, you just gave me the solution, i never reformatted the drives. THe only problem is, one of my friends gave it to me as a gift, we woulda used it in the first place, but then it couldn't write to the damn hard drive for some reason. It couldn't use bootable disks in other words. What am i supposed to do, my other mobo is broken, this mobo can't reformat. Am i gonna have to get a whole new mobo?

Your Winfast mobo should allow you to have access to optical boot options. To reformat the HD (which you definately need to do) save data files that you want.

Enter the BIOS and select the CD-ROM as the first boot device and then start the PC with the Windows CD in the CD drive. The rest should be self explanitory with on screen prompts.

I know how to do it, but the reason we didn't use the mobo in the first place was because it wouldn't write windows XP on to the hard drive. We even tried a IDE hard drive, it couldn't write to that either. So i think i'll need to do something other than just reformat, any other tips.

Perhaps you will have to replace it because the nforce 4 chipset has a modern BIOS that should allow for optical booting.

You should be able to boot the Windows CD even without a HD installed. I wonder if a BIOS update would help?

Go into windows device manager, uninstall ALL the devices you see, reboot and go from there.

To reformat a sata drive you must save the sata driver to a floppy, boot from xp cd, when it ask for other drivers install floppy with sata driver, it will load and recognise sata drive and rest is follow xp prompts.

That's what i'm thinkin too, i'm afraid i might have to buy ANOTHER damn mobo, man, i always have problems with my mobo.

Try a repair install first, boot from XP install disk and choose repair install this will keep all your docs,installed programs & prefrences but you will have to reinstall SP2, directx, all windows updates & drivers

i think you should just sell it all and take up another hobby :-) or ask someone who knows what there doing around PC's as it seems you dont really have a clue.
