    X800xl Crash to desktop...

    Alright, this is the problem.

I've got a brand new x800xl in a AMD 64 2800+ machine with 1gb of RAM. I play on high settings, and sometimes I get a crash to desktop! It happens at completly random times...

I've even tried re-formatting, and the issue still orrurs.

I've got the latest drivers, and still don't know what to do!

    Please help!

Could it be a hardware issue?

I'm just beat, and don't know what to do.

Did you clean your old drivers out first? If not, surf over the Hardware Forum (a sub-forum of the Client Support) and look at the sticky towards the top about Graphics Cards and Utilities. It will walk you through how to properly install your video drivers.

I reformatted, I know drivers can't live through reformatting

Try Omega Drivers (Google them). A lot of people who have offical driver problems report that the Omega drivers provided them with stability. Again, look at the post in the Hardware Forum that will walk you through how to uninstall the old one properly.

I had omega drivers in the first place, and still was crashing.

I have now switched back to 5.9 after I reformatted.

Ok, it's not the GPU, that's for certain, i got as many CTds with my old 9200, as my X800XL. It's not hte vid card. It's probably software problems. Plus, what's the big deal with CTDs, people like me have far worse problems, i don't get CTDs, whenever i enter a server, it just freezes after 5 seconds. It stays like that until i manuel reboot my computer. I don't care about CTDs, i mean, u just get back to the same server and you get to recollect your points and play with the same amount of points again. CTDs arn't bad at all, i don't realy care about them, a real pc crash is much worse.

              Well, that wasn't much help.

              Any other people with suggestions?

                Re: X800xl Crash to desktop...

Motherboard chipset drivers, sound drivers and video drivers are the cause of 95% of all CTDs. But you already know that and your case is different.

Since the CTD followed the reformat, you have to consider two things: What software is the same and what hardware is the same. The trouble is isolating which one. Try going into the Event Viewer to see if you have any messages regarding software and then look at the system list.

Also, go to Windows System Information located under the Start/Accessories menu and look to see if you have any hardware IRQ conflicts or sharing. Chances are that your video and sound sub-system are sharing an interrupt.

If so, remove the sound card and place it in another PCI slot. If you have onboard sound, disable it and another device you don't use, like a COM Port, reboot then turn the system off. Replace/reenable the sound to see if it will grab the new IRQ assignment.

Turn off EAX effects in sound options. That was the source of my CTD's. Never had one since then.

NO! Don't go out and buy a new GPU, I have a BFG 6800GT OC and I get the exact same thing. I've tried reformatting, installing different video drivers, installing different AGP/chipset drivers, with or without the BF2 1.03 patch, it doesn't matter. I'm extremely frustrated... I get the same issue, random crashes to desktop with no warning or error messages. It's driving me nuts, and I still can't figure it out. The only thing I say for sure is it seems to be a common issue with those of us that have an AMD 64 CPU.

Don't waste your money, your ATI card is probably good, there's something else that's not right here and for all I know it could be a compatibility issue with the game itself.

Like was suggested before, make sure all your other drivers are up to date. Motherboard, sound, network, etc, etc.

I had this problem today and it was my chipset drivers.
