Turn off automatic server joining?

When I start up BF2, it always automatically tries to make me join a server... this normally extends the connecting to server screen for an extra minute-minute-and-half. Sometimes, however, it goes straight to the in game menu and that normally takes ~5 seconds. Is there some way to make it go to the menu all the time?

Don't click the "Play BF2 Now!" icon on your desktop/start menu. Use the one that just says "Play BF2" or something.
