Um, i believe that you only need more vid memory for running textures at the highest settings. That's why we don't need 512mb vid cards yet, even though they've already come out (6800Ultra 512mb, X800XL 512mb). I don't think that ddr and gddr3 will make TOO much difference, maybe just a little. WHen buying vid cards, look at basically 3 things, price, clock speeds, and pixel pipelines.

No, that's the interface, there's two main interfaces now, AGP4x/8x, and PCI-E 16X. BUt there's not much difference between them except for different slot, so if your comp is over a year old you will be buying AGP. Pipelines are said in the specs, like when you look on newegg.com, it tells u the pipelines. In theory, if two cards had the same clock speeds, and all that shabang, but one had 1 pipeline, and the other had 2 pipelines, the one with 2 pipelines would have double the performance. So pipelines are quite important.

Yep, it took me over a month of consulting on vid card forums to get the X800XL. At first i thought it was all in the numbers (as in numbers that are right there in fronta you like 6600GT, 6600), then i thought it all depended on the vid memory. Then i was led to believe higher clock speeds are better, then i found out probably the most important one, pipelines. So it's basically clock speeds+pipelines+a teeny weeny bit of vid memory, that's the recipe to judging vid cards.

The difference betwen 128 and 256 is like NIGHT and DAY. Running aqua mark basic setting, I get 59000 pts with my 6800 ultra, 256mb. My sons 5700ultra 128mb, gets 25000 pts. When we got a 6600 256 mb, the score went to 29000 pts. Still not satisfied we returned the 6600 and got a 6800 gt 256mb and the score went to 44000 points. I hope this shows a difference and helps you out. The aqua mark 3 test uses 1024x768 x32 with high settings, a 4x AA filter. Google the test and try yours out. Aqua Mark 3 is free.

in this case it has alot more to do with the 6800 to 5700 comparison the the 128 to 256 one

Yeah, the 6800 ultra has like double the pipelines, and double the clock speeds of the FX5700 128mb. I don't think it has much to do with vid memory, if the 6800Ultra was only 32mb of memory it woulda beaten the crap outta the FX5700, it just wouldn't be able to run BF2 with textures on anything above low.

Chipset speeds had WAY more to do with that than memory size. Memory size IMO is the last thing you should worry about. pipelines>core speed>Memory Speed>memory size.

And to answer the one of the original questions GDDR3 makes quite a diffrence in the performance of the card.

Im stuck with a 5700le riht now, i got a 9800pro but its not working right, what i really want in a 6600 or 6800 whatever agp for like 100$

I hate my 5700.

IMO you should save up some more money, and go for something a little higher-end.
