Re: Forget to change Sergeant Major of The corpse

2nd Lt is like being a private only in the officer ranks. I spent 6 years in the Army and 2nd Lt's were laughed at and given a hard time by senior enlisted men. Sergeant Major of the Corps would be a much more prestigous rank than 2nd Lt any day. It's a rank that would mean you've put in many many years. A 2nd Lt is usually a kid straight out of college who knows nothing.

Actually, in the Canadian Forces, you need go to Univeristy if you want to be an Officer (so yeah...you know something). You get 2 LT when you get out of basic training. In 3 years, you usually get promoted to 1 LT and in 5 years, you reach the rank of Capt. How do I know? I have a relative who is an Intelligence Officer (Capt.).

College education only get you to NCM positions (Pte., Cpl, MCpl, etc.). How do I know? I graduated with a 3-year diploma and am applying for NCM positions (Vehicle Tech. and Construction Tech.).

At the end of the day, I'd rather start at Junior Officer and work up to maybe a General Officer one day, than start at Pte. and get up to maybe SgtMajMC (US Army that is). I don't think the Canadian Forces has that official title.

Im pretty sure its the same in the US. The reason that they get laughed at is becuase they dont have any real training or real world experience (just like privates), not becuase they are stupid. My brother is in the navy and wants to make it a career, but wont go to college to get a degree. The last I heard you couldnt become an officer without a degree. Could be wrong though.

Only if your dumb enough to do it to their faces, and even if you do it to their face, the officer in charge of the base would have to order the dismissal (I know that for a fact). A 2nd LT can't order a discharge of high ranking enlisted man (like a sergeant major of the corps) without the approval of the officer in charge.

It is the same in the US, you need a four year degree to became an officer. However, there are a few excemptions when an outstanding NCO is promoted to second lieutenant. Also, there are warrant officers that became Captains after being in for a while. I am a Sgt in the USMC by the way.

I agree with JoeJohnson's comment, most second lieutenants are clueless. They are privates with a college degree.

When I said "know nothing" I meant in a military sense compared to a senior NCO. A fresh 2nd LT won't have anywhere near the military knowledge a First Sergeant would for example.
