The real key to using any support weapon is to know its effective range. You won't hit **** at long range, and just about any other gun can outshoot you at long, so don't even try. (Unless you're in a squad and are providing tactical suppressing fire)

Short to short-mid range seems to be the ideal range for most of the support guns. The PKM seems to be decent at longer ranges, but you still don't have a chance if they start shooting back.

Not True at all. I routinely take out tons of enemy from farther than that with the PKM. OK, maybe not tons but enough so that I wouldn't say don't bother.

What he said. Throw it away and use a SAW. As a matter of fact, I encourage all players to throw away their PKM and use a SAW. Please. Don't use the PKM. (and just ignore me while I'm racking up the kills against you with my PKM).

Complete BS. Learn the support kit properly. I can take down infantry from 100-150m away with the PKM.

When you say the PKM is inaccurate, then i think you tried to play as support for the first time when you unlocked this gun. In my opinion, the PKM is much more accurate than the other support guns (prone and zoom is indeed very important) Since i unlocked it, i do not avoid long range fights anymore. I can even take out the less skilled snipers with this thing. I've unlocked all weapons except M95, and it's the best unlock i have. I absolutely love this gun, the last couple of weeks i always play as support, and i just play better with this gun. Also, the sound is awesome :)

When playing as SUpport, I only use it if I am USMC or MEC, because the Chinese support gun is more accurate than the PKM.

1. Always prone.
2. Always iron sights (unless confronting bunny hopper)
3. If you see teammates blindy spraying into emptiness, JOIN THEM!!!
4. Fire in 4 shot bursts (with half second stops)
5. Always prone (deserves twice)
6. Since 1.03, accuracy is much higher for some reason. Aim for body, headshots will happen often because of INaccuracy... ironic eh?
7. Support class' biggest threat is unlimited grenades. I have like 250 more kills with grenades than support weapon.

I don't know why but when i'm shooting far away targets, iusually get the best results when i just tap the fire key as fast as i can, rather than hold it down.

also one thing to keep in mind. after even just one shot, the PKM takes quite some time to recover from the recoil completely, so if u have the time, give it even a second to recover before shooting again.

Well, thanks all for the tips! I tried a few of the suggestions, and I seem to get the best results with just taking my sweet time, LOL. That thing is a monster against 2-3 in a tight area, ie., Karkland. Also, Vodnicks, and jeeps seem to melt when I attack them.

Fire in 10 shot bursts, aim for the chest, everytime you start a new burst wait about half a second and realign your sights. It's deadly powerful, just like you said, just take your time.
