DVD-ROM issue

Hello--new here!

I just built a new machine(DFI Lanparty nf4 Ultra-D, AMD X2 3800+, eVga 7800GTX, 1 GB OCZ Plat. Rev 2) and got BF2 free with the card. I swiped a DVD-ROM drive from my old machine(Artec DHI-G40) and proceeded to install the game. All went fine. Loaded the patches--all fine. Now, when I go to actually play, the BF2 splashscreen appears after I press Play BF2, then my DVD stops spinning, and I get the message about making sure disc is in drive etc. Then you press OK and it goes to desktop, and now my DVD drive does not exist in the device manager. Reboot, and the DVD shows back up. I searched the web and saw this problem in numerous spots, but no real definitive cure. Ideas? DVD drive too old? I am in the process of updating the firmware if that will help. No new drivers exist. I saw alot of people trying to cure with a disk image, but that was hit or miss. Do I simply need a newer drive? Thanks!

sounds like u need a newer drive....

If you're familiar with daemon tools or any of those .iso / imaging programs, you can mount it / use your hd as a virtual drive. I myself have not done this with bf2, so I'm not 100% on the success ratio...

I am trying to update firmware, but the firmware install tool from Artec doesn't get it done. I have the firmware, but no way to apply

I have an email into Artec on the issue. Any other way to get the new firmware installed?

When I installed BF2 for the first time I use my CD-RW drive & the install crashed & my drive never worked again. Try'd everthing to get it to work (it was only 6 mounths old) with no luck, others have also had CD drives crash and burn with this game. The fix, get a new drive thats what I'm do'n.

My CD-RW drive symptoms:

Boot without a CD in the drive BIOS sees drive Windows loads drivers, place CD in the drive Windows will NOT see the disk, reports drive empty.

Boot with a CD in the drive and the BIOS will not see the drive and NO drivers are loaded.

Got a new drive--now at least the game loads. Of course I have already had 2 BSOD's without any actual playtime....but that's another issue to post after I search around here for answers.
