    Importing Maya Explosion Effect

    Hey guys,

I've just made an explosion efftect in maya using particle's and was wondering how I'd go about using this to replace the current C4 explosion.

The file format is .mb and the bf2 editor help files aren't much help. Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated

Maybe you'd have more luck in a Maya specific forum. It would be sweet if it worked :)

        Re: Importing Maya Explosion Effect

you got me curious there mate. Can you make a video file of the renders to show us how it looks?
My guess is that the explosions in BF2 are regular polygon models packed with different shaders. But I am absolutely unsure about this. If you find out how to do it I'd greatly appreciate if you would post the solution here. :)

          Re: Importing Maya Explosion Effect

Well im not sure if the animation will actually work in Bf2 as it probably exeeds the particle count by far. But im unsure of how to import it so I can't tell yet

I'll post a vid of the render soon

Looking through objects_client.zip, all the effects appear to be bundledmeshes so I can only presume they were exported from maya. Not 100% sure though.

Well i made my own effects like my own weapon trails. I made them more realistic. It looks like a big smoke trail (white/grey).

Just start BF2 editor then open the map objects/effects/weapons/trails and u can tweak any weapontrails if u wich (BTW the BF2 editor ask u to switch to !!Effect mode!! klick on yes to edit any effects u want

You should use 3D studio MAX the ultimate 3D program on earth. I believe all of the 3D studio MAX files will work.

I think you can eport a MAX file or project file to 3D studio MAX then you should be able to get it to work with BF2.

Maya is easier but not as percise and detailed.

                  TheHeartSmasher:
I wouldn't say that MAX is more precise than Maya. And I also wouldn't go as far as stating that Maya is easier. I think that the Maya's user interface is much more intuitive than MAX's. And therefore some people might insist that it's easier.
But this is just another debate on principles imho.

Have you succeeded replacing the C4 explosion?
Still curious about that render :)
Maybe the guys at www.cgtalk.com can give you some hints, and advice if you get stuck?

                    Re: Importing Maya Explosion Effect

No no you have it all wrong Maya is easier to use and has less features than max and doesn't handle system processes and rendering as good as max.

I use both of them and when I need to get extremely advanced I use 3D Studio Max because it has more control and a cleaner interface. (Plus better rendering time and process managment, did I mention backend processing too.)

                        Re: Importing Maya Explosion Effect

you can download a free Maya Personal Edition at AliasWavefront's website
It has watermarks on the rendered images, and is not intended for commercial use. But you can use all it's features for unlimited time. Great to learn how to use the software which is rather expensive to buy.
