Is the ranking and upgrade only for Online gaming?

Guys maybe it has been answered already but i got a question from someone who bought the game also last week ans started to pratice against the computer itself before going online,and wanted to know if he could get all the gradations and ribbons etc.. etc.. while playing against the computer or that such (gradations and ribbons) is only available of you play online on ranked servers..

the updates go into the singleplayer as well i think like when they updated that map (forget wat its called) im sure u can play on it for single player

I don't think even EA is stupid enough to allow that.
