    Engineers, Mines & 1.03

Any ardent engineers here? I absolutely love the engineer. I also have the jackhammer unlocked and having the ability to use the mines tactically combined with the sheer stopping power of the jackhammer in close quarters, and the ability to repair your own vehicle and those of your teammates just make things so much fun.

I am not too worried about the TK problems with mines....although it does irritate me sometimes when some nut in a jeep with half a brain runs over a mine when i left a clear way to go around it, killing himself, and i get the punish all i lose is points, and i dont really care about points TBH

But does anyone here think that it just SUCKS to have mines disappear after you die? I personally think that planting mines as a base defense when the base itself is heavily under attack is a lesson in frustration. Choosing a spot to plant, then running out there (in some enemy fire) with no backup and planting mines strategically is difficult, and dangerous. And it just sucks to die after planting the last mine, and have to do it all over again. There should be a max cap of 5 mines on the map at any one time, thats fine, but having them disappear sooo easily...i dont see the logic in that. I noticed this still happens in 1.03. Mines are sometimes just plain dead easy to spot, so you have to be real resourceful to plant them such that they are harder to see (eg. space them wide apart, put them in shadows etc) so you can actually kill stuff with it. I'm not going to complain about EA, thats just gay. I just wish that mines were partially camoflaged such that they blend better into the surroundings rather than stick out like someone just dropped a hubcap on the ground. Not invisible of course, i believe a driver should have a fair chance of spotting mines if he looks out for them carefully, it just shouldnt be as easy as it currently is.

Dont get me wrong, i still love the engineer, and i will continue to play him no matter what....but i just feel the class could be just that much better to play if these small issues were addressed. Usually there are too few engineers in a map anyways. The only engineers are usually vehicle whores (nothing wrong with that mind you, they are engineers after all, but none use mines very much, so you dont see as many as there should be in base defense roles (which i enjoy doing very much)...planting mines is just too dangerous, and too TK-friendly, and disappear too quickly to be worthwhile for them.

1.03 just made putting up mines kind of useless.. mines can be destroyed with grenades now, not usre about a tank shell but my guess is that also makes them pop.

a real pain in the anal section when teammates are near the mines when they blow up.. earned my first 'TK' punishment today by a guy who got blown up by my mine while he was on foot

edit: and in the DC mod which I played, the mines where allmost invisible, only a contact spring was visible, the rest was 'under ground'

made using mines a whole lot more realistic

The first time I played eng for an entire round was to get my repair badge so I could rank up (need all basic badges my ass, so worthless) and well I nearly threw bf2 out the window and took a shotgun to it because its absolutly retarded how much you gotta put in to get a repair point. On the bright news it was my first time playing wake island and I got a gold medal so I didnt break anything . I think I might play eng a little more because wasnt that bad running around in wake with the unlock shotty although reload time is crap. Still I tried placing an at mine on a tank and got 4 kills from 1 mine so its a pretty fun class .

I agree. It's VERY satisfying to see that some rube ran over a mine you set on the other side of the map while you're somewhere else busy placing more. Or better, when you get killed and a whole Humvee full of troops runs over your mine afterwards.

This helps a crap game whenever my aim is no good.

Loving the Engineer Class. Moving up the ranks too. #294 in the class and #650 or so in armor.

As far as Mines go...I don't throw too many out..except where they won't be detected...like in bushes near the road...on bridges...and the ends where there is a dovetail angle...etc.

And you can have my Jackhammer..when you pry it from my cold dead fingers! :)

I play engi a lot, cause I'm really a tank whore at heart. I'm not all that impressed with the Jackhammer though, I still prefer the DAO.

I would also like to see that you'll get points as an engineer for removing mines from the enemy engineer.

i too am a fan of the engi class

it does have some details to be worked out but i think all the classes could use some tweaking but this patch was definately a move in the right direction.

With more spec ops running around destroying arty and other items...the engineer is as important as most.

I'll probably never run over a mine again. Engi's will have to throw it on my tank/apc.

                              Re: Engineers, Mines & 1.03

I have to admit, i really love 1.03 right now

But does anyone here agree that having disappearing mines just doesnt make sense? If you can only place no more than 5 mines anyplace, i can't see why the mines should have to disappear when you die. I mean, after all, its a mine right, how come it has to die when you do

I think something like a spring sticking out of the ground is a great idea, or make it such that the only exposed part of the mine is the top of the small explosive charge you put into the mine just before you drop it (i'm not sure what that thing is, the thing which slots into the mine). So it can be spotted, just not easily.

Blowing up mines with nades seems a little wierd though, kinda makes the magic wrench of the engineer a little redundant...oh well, it's not that big of an issue.

Just wish mines wouldnt disappear and were a little harder to spot then they are now. Anyone else agree?
