Mouse Pads

I'm currently building a new computer. As part of my new gaming rig, I just got a Logitech G5 mouse. While I've never really used a mouse pad with any of my optical mice before (just use the desk), I've been reading around the net lately and the common consensus seems to be that a proper mouse pad can make a huge difference to mouse performance and control while gaming.

So, I thought I should probably get a new mouse pad to go along with my new mouse and rig.

Currently, the two pads I'm looking at are the Razer eXactMat and the Steelpad S&S.

I was also looking at the func 1030 but it seems a bit too thick for my taste.

So, what do you guys use? And which one of the above seems the best to you? Because I think I'm pretty much set on the fact that I'm going to get a proper gaming mouse pad, now I just have to decide which one...

I either use my desk, or just a generic crappy plain ol mouse pad that you can get for like 99 cents.

I have the MX518 mouse. Makes no difference with pad or without. Without makes my wrist hurt from resting on the corner of my desk - but that is the only issue.

Mouses are crappy compared to a optical trackball. I cant even see myself ever using a mouse again. Do yourself a favor and dump the mouse all together and pick yourself up a trackball, after you get the feel for the trackball you will tell yourself, WTF was i thinking with a mouse...

trackballs are nasty. If you can get the hang of them, then you'll be fine, but i can't get the hang of them, lol.

Gah, I despise trackballs - just can't use em!

A mousepad is a mousepad is a mousepad in my opinion. Just get one that's BIG, and don't spend too much on it. The type of mousepad you play with hardly makes as much of a difference as the type of MOUSE you play with.

If you wanna get a good pad, get the Icemat! It's made from glass, and gives an inredible precision. Also, when you buy the "pad" you get a strip of Teflon tape, which you can put underneath your mouse to increase accuracy and precision even more.

I've got the Logitech MX-518, and it works like a dream on this pad :)

There are two versions of this pad, the normal one - and the Second edition which has a huge surface area.

I use the so-called "endless" pad.

In australia, the supermarkets have recently started selling "green bags" to the customers. They are laughing that they get less need for plastic bags, and are getting money for these.

Anyway. They are green usually, a tough non-natural material. Now that is'nt what is important.

The important thing is what they put in the bottom to make them stronger.

They have a flat black plastic "sheet" about the size of an A4 paper. One side is usually rough, and the other for some reason is shiny and smooth. Stick some double ended tape onto the rough side, and stick it to your desk.

Instant mouse pad, that works a treat, made from teh same material as the plastic mousepads that cost a fortune.

If you don't have these, then a similar replacement can be found possibly in a A4 plastic binder, with clear inserts, to place A4 paper sheets in, like reports, shool stuff etc.

Some of these have a similar cover with is not clear, like the endless pad, check if it's shiny or rough.

I'm also in the market for a new mouse pad. I have one of the $.99 from Wal-Mart. I have never really had any problems with it and works fine. I've never found myself running out of room on it. I would like to try one of the larger ones. I was also looking at that Logitech G7. Man that is an awesome mouse.

I was all confused about mouse pads too and thought it was a bunch of crap, but with the way mice are today the pad makes a BIG difference (IMO of course) I picked up this monster to use with my MX-518 and WOW! I love it.....glides like glass and is pin-point accurate (for my mouse). Plus, the GIGANTIC surface area is a plus as well....besides, you get a sweet case for it :)

on a side note, I am at a tough crossroad right now deciding wether to go with the Logitec G5 mouse or the Razor Copperhead. Anyone have either of these now or now where I could find some kind of VS. article.
