 on sp i have all my settings on low but it still goes laggy my specs..
1 gig of ram
ati radeon 9600 pro
1.70 ghz
intel pentium 4
any thing else u need to know just ask me
I would say your Processor speed. You are at the bare minimum requirement
(1.7ghz) for this game. You would need a very good 256mb Vid card to do you any justice with that processor. Thats what I think!
It should run ok on your system.. should even be able to pull SOME medium settings.
It might be a lot of things..
Remember that BF2 eats systems for breakfast (mmmm, cereal).
Heres some general hints..
Turn off everything thats running on your computer in the background, make sure you have updated drivers, turn off EAX and set your sounds on "low". MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DYNAMIC SHADOWS/LIGHT on OFF!... try those out.
**ADDED**
Dont listen to the post above me about a "256mb" video card. It HARDLY makes any difference between a 128mb card and a 256mb card. Your 9600pro will work fine (I used to run it on a 9600xt on medium settings and get 60fps).

If you want to play bf2 on high settings, your going to have to pay for it.. Running BELOW the minimum specs will get you minimum eyecandy.. (I say below, because the 9600 series is offically unsupported by the game.. some 9600 cards it works on, some it doesn't).

No problem :) Glad I could help.
If you want, your rig is good enough to run on basic "medium" settings if you turn down the sound settings to low and turn off your dynamic shadows/lighting..
^^those are the 3 big killers for this game.. I have seen top of the line systems beg for mercy with those settings turned on high.
yeah too bad the game looks crap....but i still like it...me and the bots just done sumfing beautiful.....i was surrounded...by 10 guys and 2 tanks...the black hawk came cleared the 10 guys and the a attack choopper got the tanks..it was soo beatiful
