Heads Up regarding 1.03 Patch Issue and Hyperthreading...

Just a heads up for some of you that might be having issues after the 1.03 patch. I patched BF2 and it reported success but upon trying to run the game, I was sent back to the desktop after the BF2 logo and a black screen. Most people would just uninstall/reinstall at this point but I wanted to see if I could determine the issue so I checked the patchlog.txt file in the My Docs\Bf2\Dmp folder and found that the BF2.EXE file had not been patched because it did not match the required parameters.

I knew right away why this happened and put back a copy of the original BF2.EXE. Re-ran the patch and all is good. So, the reason is that I used the "imagecfg" command to set the processor affinity (essentially disabling HyperThreading for BF2) on the BF2 executable to CPU 0 because I was experiencing random CTDs. That change resulted in a difference of the BF2 executable that the patch didn't like so it left the file alone. If any of you have used the imagecfg command on your BF2.exe file, be sure to put back a copy of the original prior to running the 1.03 patch.

I'm not so sure...not that I understood most of your post...time for another ritalin tab...anyway.

When I installed the patch and tried to run BF2, I got nothing black screen. CtrlAltDEl to shut her down. Rebooted...same problem, this time I decided to wait it out. And voila, she worked. I think the game does some patching when you first run it and a reboot is required.

I haven't had problems with it since and I'm running with Hyperthreading.

It is the same as if you install a ***** that replaces the org. BF2.exe then it won't patch, and it shouldn't. The signature for the .exe is wrong according to the patch when you alter the file.

So this isn't a problem for ppl that have disabled their HT functionality overall and in BIOS, just if you use the util to alter the BF2.exe's affinity.

Tool used to select which CPU is to be used on a particular .exe file, can be used instead of disabling HyperThreading entirely.
The 1st post here in this threads just remind ppl that has used that tool that they need to use the original bf2.exe if they used the tool, or else patching skips bf2.exe.

Gunny, thanks for clarifying my post. I didn't mean to cause so much confusion. I guess I didn't need to be so verbose.

For anyone who reads this thread and is confused about what the imagecfg utility is and what it does, you probably don't have this issue because you would remember if you used the utility to set your processor affinity. I had to use it (even after the 1.03 patch) in order to avoid CTD's.

                Thanks,

Yes, this is true but you have to do it each time you run the game which is a PITA. I did it this way the first few times I was testing to see if the Hyperthreading issue was causing my CTDs.

when you run the patch, turn off your PC count to 10 and power it back on. ive had no hyperthreading problems, it just needs a cold restart thats all
