    Good Things about 1.0.3

I see all the threads complaining and whining about what the patch has done to ruin their lives... doesn't anyone have anything good to say?

I do and I think some of you do, too. So why not list some of the nice new features:
    • Reduced Ranks - It's much more fun now and a lot less frustrating. There's still ranks for the higher rank players but it's rewarding to see your rank increase and gain new unlocks
    • Reduced requirements for Bages - Everyone thinks they look cool. I never would have ever received any of the higher level ones - Now I might
    • Wake Island - It's a classic - awesome
    • Bug Fixes - Sure, some are still there and there's probably some new ones. But they have fixed some really nasty ones
    • New features - The labels for spawn points, Countdown for countermeasures, names of vehicle occupants, rewards for destroying enemy's equipment, etc
    • Gameplay changes - Less BH whoring = More C4 kills. Less TKs by artillery or vehicles

Please add to the list and let's take some time out and appreciate the work Dice(/EA) has done. A 170+ MB patch is not something you code over the weekend.

PS: If you have nothing positive to contribute, please keep it to yourself. There's enough flaming and moaning going on in the other threads.

I think DICE should be the ones commended, if anyone. I'm not going to appreciate a publisher for work a developer did.

While the reduced ranks may be nice for those casual players, I have to say I disagree with it. First of all, we have all these high ranking NCOs running around now, and hardly any grunts at all. I have a really high rank now (First Sergeant) but now I'll have to more than double my current score to earn a promotion. I was less than 4,000 away from making Sergeant before the patch. I was so looking forward to earning that. I thought that Sergeant reflected well of my time-in-service and skill. Now with First Sergeant, I don't feel I'm worthy of this rank at this moment in time. I feel cheated. Now with 1.03, I'm handed 4 simultaneous promotions. There is no earning there - and I felt really cheated. Now, instead of having to earn 4,000 more points... I have to earn about 29,000 more points before I earn a promotion.

        1.02 - 4,000 away from earning a promotion.
        1.03 - 29,000 away from earning a promotion.

        No me gusta.

but you got 4 promotions with the new patch so the last little bit in your post is not right.

The BF2 HQ is updated with a few handy, if not immence features.

I think one of the best things is the mentioned Black hawk whoring. I used to see so much of that, now people wont be able to be gay and flag hop, and if they do only with what would previously be just 2 people inside.

I really like the fact that they added ranks. This sort of eases me as I only have one unlock left (Engy, as if I'd use the Jackhammer...) and no stress over ranking up. Sure, I'm 20,000 points from the next rank, but I get to use the grand majority of unlocks until then. Plus the new features work great -- even if one point only for Arty/UAV/Scan destruction, I find myself doing it more often and motivated to do so.

Wake 2007 is amazing IMO. A classic from BF1942 and seems to work great in BF2. I was afraid the planes would ruin it in BF2 but it stands as mostly a ground battle. Shame there aren't any ships around anymore. :p

As for down points... AA is still as useless. Both mobile and fixed. I've also seen a few teamkills by wreckage explosion. They swore they fixed both, they still seem broken to me. I've noticed a few bugs, but nothing big. I'll admit to have been expecting a perfect-patch after a month and so's delay, it is a bit disappointing, but it sure as hell is better than as it was!

What I like the most about the patch are the new sounds, turning a turet sounds realy cool now, also the APC fire sound is much better and the engine sound of some jeeps has improved a lot.

You can see who is in your vehicle, very good

you can see where the suplie box is.

Yes, I got them - I did not earn them. That was the whole point to my little rant.

Are you saying you didn't earn your points and you have been stat padding this whole time ? Dice or whomever is incharge of the stats part of the game at this point decided to ajust the promotion scale (And scales for various awards).

In this game you earn points through play and performance in battle. You do not earn your ranks, you are awarded them at set intervals of points that the powers at be set for us. The ranks and the unlocks that come with them are basicly rewards for effort put forth gaining points.

So are you upset that you were awarded these things on an adjusted scale? Or are you really upset that you simply have further to go till you see another upgrade in rank? You earned the points which got you where you are now, this is across the board for everyone. It's not like they just boosted you and no one else.

A couple things I like about the patch...
                        - Supplydrop icon, I never realised how many of those crates are actually on the field until you see the icons. Now I usually don't have a problem finding ammo/health as long as I have a half decent commander.
                        - Names in vehicles, when you get in and when you press your seat button (F1-F6) you get the peoples names in your vehicle. Can't tell you how many times I've yelled at my clanmate to gun the guy down in front of me only to find out it was another guy in the gun.
                        - Names on map, finally I'm able to tell my clanmates, "Go to the Rockformation Outpost" instead of "Go to the flag in the middle but not center and to the left"
                        - Flare/Smoke reload bar, pretty nice to actually see when your countermeasures are finished reloading instead of trying to hear it.
                        - Sounds, I kinda dig the new ones, just adds more atmosphere.

I'm try to think of some more.

Im with you, and the fact vehicles cant cap flags instantly when fully loaded up. But thats all i like.

                            I agree - good stuff.

The names in vehicles, supply drop icon, and flare indicator all good. Stuff in the first post good as well.

Not so happy with how easy all the ranks are now - but I can understand why they did it that way. There are many more casual gamers out there than hardcore unfortunately.

Really glad the patch is here, and very glad it contains all that it does. fun game just got better, IMO. the lower requiremens for ranks are better for a real high percentage of the gamers out there with other things going on in their lives.

So far, I've paid about 50 cents per hour enjoying this game ($50 cost, 118 hrs in), and at this rate it's been a great gaming value. I plan on playing for a long time more!
